Some people are sent to jail because of debt and other bullsh*t reasons.
I had a story in my local town where he went into debt because of his divorce, child support, and he had a disability and was considered "unhireable." He robbed three banks to make sure that he was able to support himself and make sure that his children was kept up. Argument 1: US has more prisoner than any other nation in the world. Pointing toward unjust law and government influence.

Argument 2: The prisoners currently serving are all inside due to crimes they commited, Pointing toward law and government is in fact Just.

Conclusion: Either US government is unjust and imprisoned many innocent people or OR US is a crime ridden country with substandard moral and higher crime rate than Gothan City + Metropolis combine

Yes there is a defense

our government may be unjust in a lot of things but the reasons why we throw people in jail can't necessarily be one of them
especially when we're disputing drugs

In canada is weed illegal?
if it isn't, well it's not a crime there, but it is here
crime goes on everywhere, laws vary from country to country
drugs are legal in tons of countries, so there aren't people in jail for drug crimes.
does that not mean there isn't theft and crime in these countries resulting from these drugs? NOPE.

Let's take alcohol for example, it's perfect legal here
but people rob houses and do anything they can to feed their addiction
and in some cases the same goes for cigarettes, and if we suddenly made these things illegal, sure crime rates /would/ raise because it would then be illegal

do you get it?
it doesn't mean we're a crime ridden country
not everyone here is some evil thief, rapist or murderer
but out jails are filled with drug addicts, why? because it's illegal HERE

I don't see it... I doubt US law on drugs is harsher than Chinese law on drugs. Seriously in China any and all kinds of drugs possession are met with harsh punishment, even soft drugs like weed.

Well considering I have a friend who bought drugs from an undercover cop
she got 6 years in prison
and it was her first time ever getting in trouble with the law
Idk about China but that seems pretty harsh, but it's the law
you break it you pay for it

and I agree with it completely

Maybe I am being paranoid but I don't trust laws like I use to... Besides 6 years just for possession? First offense too? The way I think about this is: There is no difference between Cigarette and other kinds of addictive drugs. Let's face it, Cigarette is probably worse than Weed considering its toxic nature, it's worse for human body than Weed, and it's also addictive, yet it's being sold publicly. I don't see the logic behind legalize cigarette and tobacco while people who do other kind of equally addictive and harmful drug need to spend 6 years of their life in prison. It's unjust. It is. I don't see the justification of making someone waste 6 years, time enough to go to college and get a master degreed, just because police intentionally lure people into a crime which let's face it has very little victim but the one who bought the drug. He/She will suffer health and financely for the choice he/she made, but that's the action of an individual, it doesn't effect society as a whole, and if US is pulling bs like this, US law is not a just law.

Well do you know of the prohibition?
We made alcohol illegal for a little while in the 40s?
Crime rates peaked, and we eventually made it legal again

alcohol was always fine, but our government realized what damage alcoholism was doing and wanted it to stop
the only problem with this is it pissed those alcoholics off. so people killed each other for the stuff
and this goes on with drugs as well but mostly the hardcore **** like cocaine, heroine and meth
which will always be illegal because it wrecks the human body rapidly

anyway long story short after a short amount of time we made it legal again

now making it legal would boost a lot of things, economy but it would all in all do more harm than good

we can't make things like cigs and alcohol illegal because it wrecks the body
why, because it's always been allowed and if you take away, people addicted to the stuff will go bonkers to get it no matter at what cost

even though it isn't fair because cigs do more damage than weed
we can't take it away, but we can keep one less thing that could potentially cause harm over long term use out of the open market

I see the reason behind that argument, but it's still very hypocrytical for US government to impose such harsh punishment for possession of other drugs. And frankly I don't see why legalize drugs (I don't do drug, alcohol, or cigarette, I just want to make a logic point) would do great damage to US as a whole. Tobacco business has been bringing money into US treasury for years and people who do these kind of things pretty much only harm themselves. If drugs only harm individual, it's in individual's rights to do whatever he/she wants with his/her body. US government is actually violating basic human rights by imposing criminal law onto citizens.
