Just curious but if the ending was disappointing to you then what kind of ending would you have preferred?

I honestly thought the series as a whole was rushed way too quickly.

just going to put the spoiler for those that haven't watched it...In case.
I would've much more preferred if it ended in the first arc without the second arc happening. If everyone awoke or something after that, then I think it would've ended pretty cleanly...
I didn't like how Asuna became a completely helpless princess in AO, even if she couldn't help it. The cousin-brother love was another one of those generic things that wrecked it a bit for me.
Also, the characters in AO weren't as prominent to me as the ones in SAO were, probably because the ones in AO lacked getting to know the characters better.
Don't blame the anime, blame the novel.
Or even blame the anime, idk.
But Kirito had to hurry so...

They should have had it hint more towards a second season, since it's fairly misleading to those who haven't read the novels and are probably thinking the story is over now [S]even if they end up not doing a second season, which would be ridiculous with how popular it's become[/S]. Not only that, but the way the ended it off feels rushed to me. They also made the whole Suguha romance aspect incredibly blatant. The development between Lyfa and Kirito was shown very poorly, so it more or less came off as BAM SHE'S IN LOVE FOR NO REASON.
To be honest, the series sells more on the game aspects and such rather than the plot. The plot is interesting up until the end of SAO where they actually had to worry about death and had reason to be more dramatic over the game.

If I'd known the source material and known what was going to happen I don't think I would have ended up watching this anime. Oh look, she loves her cousin . Oh look, people jumping into virtual reality with no explanation (which they did sort of explain near the end but that probably should have come sooner so we don't people are idiots). Oh look, Plot Armor. Just details like that.

Agreed. I actually found the ALO part to be pretty lame. I did like the ending, however. Not sure if I'd watch a new season, though, as I imagine it would just be a continuation of "lol kids playing a mmo".

I just started and finished it yesterday. Literally took me the whole day but it's not like I was doing anything.
Anyways I found it really good.
I can't believe that Sugou guy tried to stab him.

Am I the only one who wanted that psychopath to kill him?
Anyway, I'm disappointed because I wanted everyone to die. Everyone should've died. The internet should've crashed and everyone should've just died.
...But honestly I really tried to give this series a chance and it was just...so-so. 5.5/10.

I've been sick for the whole holiday period so I rewatched the whole thing up to the last episode, and I stand by my original opinion...
The anime should have ended with SAO, and the SAO arc should have been slightly longer with a better finish.
The novels might have the luxury of being able to drag on as long as they like and developing lots of story/characters but the anime doesn't, and I think the anime pretty much got raped.
Also, why did kirito never use his transformation thing again? He transformed into an overpowered beast to fight a few crappy mages but didn't use it to fight the "strongest" swordsman guy, or to try and fight in that room inside the world tree? Was it a one-time use, I didn't see it mentioned.

*jaw drops* I forgot all about transformation beast mode....Either way I still love the anime for its first story, and if theres anymore Ill watch it as well because even if its ridiculous its enjoyable if you let it be.

The novels explain that the transformation magic is more or less a cosmetic change. I guess you can compare it to Mabinogi's new transformation skill. The whole point of him using it back when they were cornered by Salamanders was to scare them shitless. Otherwise, it wouldn't have been very useful against the general of an army or an army of AIs. Not to mention the incantation for it is probably too long to be used in a moment's notice, considering how he had to have Lyfa protect him long enough to complete the spell.
Other than that, I agree with you that they should have made SAO longer. Even if the actual arc wasn't that long, they could have at least dragged out the episodes to actually take the time to explain nearly as much as they did in the novels. I feel that the producers tried to go more into the plot rather than the explanation of game mechanics that made the story interesting for me, which was imo a bad move since the plot begins to lose it's spark as soon as SAO ends.
The author may be writing a continuation of SAO in the form of Novels explaining stories of what happened between the 1 ~ 75th floors, though that doesn't exactly save the series for people interested in only the anime.

I think this show would have done better as a hentai.
