You could be on it right now for all you know.
...anyone quoted you lately?

Don't be such a meanie :no!:
So, two questions that your reply brought up.
Can mods see and reply to these people on the global ignore list?
Are all their previous posts affected, or just the ones after they get put on the list?

all their posts disappear, but if they were quoted, you can still see the original post.

Yeah, mods can see them but nobody else can. How else would we be able to monitor their progress?
As for previous posts, they all vanish.

I mean, I think it's silly. One the GI'd person figures out they're on GI, what's the point? They either quit or do what? Obviously these people should be banned, but they're just being enabled in a way. It's true that normal users can't see their posts, but what happens if they ever get off GI?
If there are people to the point where they piss everybody off everytime they post, I don't see the point in letting them stick around. You don't even need to permanently ban them, but they need to get the message that their behavior isn't welcome. Letting them punt around on GI is just silly and pointless.

Please try reading the thread. We've already addressed everything in your post.

I did read the thread, thanks. Just expressing my thought on the matter.
I don't see why you guys should have to hold these people's hands and "monitor" them. Again, if they're at the point where they make people angry with their posts, they just need to be banned and that's the end of it.

That
isn't the end of it. That's the entire point. They keep coming back, and then they're posting all over the forum and it's hard to tell for sure if it's really them (once we even find them again to begin with). If anything, banning people that are going to do that makes it a hundred times worse.

Okay then, never mind. Nobody's listening to what Yoorah and I are saying, so adios! Guess it's a good thing we're not moderators.

Some people, though, will never even realize that they're globally muted, or it will take them some time to find out. This means that, effectively, the problem has went away.
Man, people would have to be awfully dense to not figure out they've been muted. It's a large community where everyone is talking to each other. If they can't realize after extended periods of time that they're talking to themselves and only themselves, maybe they really
don't belong here. Not everyone is super interesting and gets quoted all the time, but... after making about 500 posts and someone not saying a damn thing related to what they say at all, you'd think it would clue them in.
Also, I finally know why the pages are like that. I just thought it was a bug with the forums.

Bans are not the pretty solution you think they are. They are not "the end of it".
Don't be simpleminded, people aren't cute and obedient all the time. If they cause a big enough problem to warrant being banned, then there's a very good chance they're not going to go quietly.
You might not know it but a lot of people come back to cause trouble, their friends start having little spats and digs at mods for their "poor decision making", and overall it's just one big infestation of stupidity and needless drama.
You'd be surprised at how well global ignore works.
We're not "holding their hands and monitoring them". They're as good as banned, although if we read their posts and see a significant improvement we'll discuss taking them off global ignore, although only extreme cases have been put on the list, and they really have no hope of changing.

And as said earlier, the people we put on the global ignore list haven't really warranted a ban, and the reason that a majority of the people we put on the global ignore list is to stop fighting. I mean, we can take everyone off the global ignore list if that's what you guys want, but then we'll have to crack down and infract/ban anyone that fights with those said people.
So again, it's up to you guys: have the ability to see every single post, and have all the threads have accurate page numbers than listed, but have people cause a drama constantly where ever they go, and we ban a very large portion of our community because they had to fight with those people (and it's not just one or two people fighting, we mean a large portion of the community literally attacks the person), and in the process essentially killing off the site, or leave the global ignore list as it is and everyone forget about it and just move on. Personally, since I like this site, but I know that people are going to fight and attack people over stupid reasons, so it's best to just put an end to it and unfortunately use a method that isn't fair towards one person.
And trust me, we do have an "Option C" that's much worse than a permanent ban or being put on the global ignore list.

jeez, what are you gonna do, show up at their doorstep and brain them with a baseball bat until they stop posting?

No no, that's "Option Q", with "Option R" curb stomping the person if you must know. But for the sake of keeping "Option C" useable, I can't reveal what it is. But do know that it is the absolute last line we have to use should a person constantly try to avoid bans, so as long as you wait your time of your ban, you won't have to worry about "Option C".
