It really does seem like it might be neat. but eh, I dunno. I find it messed up how I can only find discussions about VNs BESIDES Katawa Shoujo on /m/
To be fair, you're expecting 4chan to not be obsessed about a rather good work being started on there. It's kind of like a parent showing off their child's achievements. While it's not their's exactly, they're still proud of it and like to think of it as their own.
The thing with Cross Channel and YMK is that they're immediately interesting. And consistently stays interesting throughout the entire time.
In Cross Channel,
you and your group of friends go to a school for the dysfunctioned. However, when you first see their interactions, they're normal, tame, and you wonder just how are they dysfunctioned. And then you run into the first ending of the game, and you have to immediately figure out why that had just happened.
In YMK...
To be frank, you're attacked by a nun with boxing gloves? while in a train. In your dreams. And then you see amazingly severe things going on, such as a girl being tazed during class, a crazy little girl hopped up on drugs, and a student council president who is prone to blackmailing everyone and somehow drugs you and gets you to a trip to China.
Haven't played Alternative myself, but I'm sure it starts just about as absurd as CC and YMK, and consistently stays that way and makes you hunger for more. Katawa Shoujo has none of that, isn't nearly as plot oriented or fully fleshed out, and isn't very 'action-y' like Cross Channel, and no where near Alternative's. It's more of a stereotypical 'dating sim' type visual novel with a slightly interesting twist onto things, but is ultimately a normal story.
I take it that visual novels like Clannad or Little Busters isn't exactly your cuppa?
Also using a flowchart to do the routes feels like cheating unless you're using it to 100% after doing all of the routes D:
