Oh no, I meant the 50 for buying the game in the first place, plus whatever the monthly fee will be. I don't think anyone would play a game that cost 50 a month-

Is it 50+ monthly? I hear in the game that people say they are going to keep the fee below $26 per month.
$50 for initial purchase + additional monthly of $15 I believe (I pre-ordered and subscribed). Though it's cheaper if you subscribe for longer periods at a time (ie. 1 year is $8.95/month)

I real love the game but I can't afford it either :(, I think I will spend it on guildwar 2

The high fees mentioned are for either Korea or Japan, I can't remember. A game would never sell in the west for that.
Anyways like I said in the Aion thread:
TERA isn't free-to-play though. I hear they're going to have something about being able to pay for your subscription with in-game money and that all of the mobs are randomized which makes botting near impossible, so I dunno... maybe it'd be okay. But I'm not sure I like the idea of having to grind hardcore and be perpetually poor just to play a game.

You sure they're gonna do that? I really don't like that idea. I've heard pay to play games tend to have better communities and don't really wanted it infested with people nolifing it away so they can go without paying. It almost kinda ruins the spirit of the game and makes it feel like work, as well as attracting the types that take things way too seriously. They'll literally have to play constantly and take the game seriously or they just won't get to play period. Just imagine how annoying that'll be when you're trying to kill some monsters and someone starts yelling at you and demanding you leave because they need that gold to survive. It's the kind of thing that seems like it might just fuck up a community, because you know people who don't have to pay usually won't, even if it's very convenient to.

What if goldbuyers bought gold to pay for their subscriptions? :P

@RebeccaBlack
During CBT, there were three 4chan guilds, each with ~300 people. They made a point out of trolling area chat hardcore...so I just turned it off asap. After that, things were fine, though my guild was at war with literally 10 other guilds so it was dangerous to go out alone :v
@TA
Basically, they have a sanctioned method of selling time to other players. You buy a scroll which represents x amount of days and sell it for ingame gold. The buyer redeems it and has x days added to their subscription.
Gold is best received in instances though, or on the market. If you really want to get rich, you won't be competing with other people grinding mobs.

Aha. So rather than gold buyers buying from botters, they instead buy an item from the company which they can exchange for the in-game gold. Those are gonna probably be expensive as hell though. I mean probably $15 (or more) worth of in-game gold...

Well, hopefully people will have the common sense to keep prices at a range where it isn't more worthwhile to just pay the subscription fee with real-world money. I was just kidding earlier, but it would be weird if it happened.

doubt it, just look at Eve online. I am not even going to bother with it anyway, I don't think I will enjoy the game if I spend most of the play time grind for gold. Just gona buy Guildwars 2.

The idea, if memory serves, was that it would crush gold-farmers altogether. In addition to the difficulty of botting through the game, if a player can turn rl cash into in-game gold using safer and sanctioned methods, there will be no demand for gold-farmers.
Then again, since many farmers are actually people playing the game, they will quite possibly exist and therefore provide some competition...thus regulating the price of the scrolls. I can't make any concrete predictions yet, but the sub fee is already cheap so I don't see many people exploring this option anyway.

It's like $15/month. How is that cheap? I could get a lot of great things for that price.

Almost every pay to play mmo is $15 a month. As has been said previously in the thread, it's cheaper if you buy yearly. However, this game is definitely worth $15 a month considering some Mabinogi players pay much more than that per month, for example.
Besides, $15 a month for this game is nothing. Rather I'd go far enough to say that's a bargain. This game is amazing. It has both quality gameplay and graphics as opposed to every other game in the market right now. My real life friends loved playing the beta alone, even being confined at the current level cap, and they were hardcore World of Warcraft and Guild Wars players.

I think Vindictus is a better game.
I pay for everything I buy... unless a friend buys me something as a gift.
I can name a lot of things that are better for me to spend my money, but I may continue playing anyway if I like the game enough in the long run. I would also be spending my money on those other things.
Just because a lot of games do it doesn't make it a good idea. I don't pay for those games, either.
