Quote from BobYoMeowMeow;5453:
this is basically an ongoing harem manga that existed since love hina's time right?
No.
There are occasional situations where it resembles Love Hina greatly with all the harem. Its more frequent at the beginning of the series where everyone wants to have baths with Negi.
Rarely in battle Asuna will fall victim of having her clothing completely removed by a magical force rendering her unable to fight. And Evangeline appears nude half the time because she's too awesome for clothes.
But starting with the school festival arc, its nothing but the most bad ass shounen beat down I've read in a long time when it comes to manga. I'm putting the action on par with Claymore. Especially the tournament arc between Negi vs Rakan, ranks top 5 fights I've seen in all of anime/manga.
This manga was a VERY risky choice for the author. Unlike Love Hina where there were only about a dozen characters, the class Negi leads in this series has 31 characters, all of which is expected to take a huge role in the plotline. There are, of course, another large group or so characters in the series acting as support or antagonists. Its a little overwhelming at first, but the author does an incredibly smooth job of introducing the characters at a slow pace, putting them in exactly where they need to, while giving them all enough coverage to make sure they're not left out.
The anime COMPLETELY ruined this series by displaying a 2X episode of nothing but harem and terrible voice acting. From this point on everyone thought this was a more loli version of love hina and never got in to it, but its really 100% mainstream.
Rakan: No one else is bad ass enough to come up with a new spell on the spot called NEGI FEVER which blasts energy out of his entire body to one direction.
