Should I drop leap and get Backstep?
Shanghai wrote on 2010-07-09 02:29
You should get both Backstep and Backstep Cancel, that means some deleveling on your skills though. It's well worth it since Backstep is good for Gunners to get away from enemies when you don't want them in your face, and other things.

Backstep and Backstep Cancel are given for free after the Priest patch if that makes you happy. :)
I'm pretty sure they'll compensate your used SP too.

So one of my friends went to Anime Expo at the L.A. Convention Center in Southern California and guess what she found?

Took me 3 days for lv24...
But about 6 months ago before the exp curve patch, it'd take 100 runs of Vestibule of Darkness to reach level 24 from 23.

Luis Reyes
POSITION & COMPANY:
Associate Producer, Dungeon Fighter Online, Nexon America
WHAT VIDEO GAME FIRST GOT YOU HOOKED INTO GAMING?
I'm going to reveal my age with this one, but Yie Ar Kung-Fu. It was this fighting game from 1985 that was at a movie theater I used to hang out in when I was a kid. It was the first video game I ever played that featured an array of colorful opponents, each with an entirely different fighting technique. You played this guy named Oolong and one of the fighters you faced used throwing stars, another used a pole, another nunchaku. It had an interface similar to Dungeon Fighter Online, actually, where instead of two larger fighting characters in the middle of the screen beating the hell out of each other, it pulled back, the characters smaller against the background so you could really strategize your attack.
HOW DID YOU GET INTO THE INDUSTRY?
I started out as the Editor-in-Chief of Akadot.com, a manga-centered online news-magazine supported by Digital Manga, Inc. Before I had been a fan of Akira, Gundam and Ghost in the Shell, but I had never really embraced the totality that was anime and manga until I started working there. Next I spent six years as a Senior Editor at Tokyopop, Inc., an entertainment company that published a lot of manga, and was attempting to cross over into games with phone apps and online browser features. While at Tokyopop, I actually had several meetings with a company called Nexon, that was trying to make manga out of MapleStory and KartRider. The books never happened, but my introduction to Nexon did, and a few years later I applied for a job as an Associate Producer.
WHAT EXACTLY DO YOU DO EVERY DAY?
It really is a wide-range of tasks. My primary responsibilities involve the website for DFO and coordinating Marketing and PR efforts through those departments. Sometimes this involves coming up with promotional videos, sometimes it involves inventing new characters for the games. I write a lot for the website, and try to make things clear and accessible in our Game Guides, while also trying to make all of the other content engaging. I am also heavily involved in testing, of the website and the game, working closely with the other producers to make sure everything is running smoothly. Of course, this often means working through the night, but in the end it is all worth it.
WHAT DO YOU LIKE MOST ABOUT YOUR JOB?
This is an online environment that is always live, is always being accessed by our players, and because of that we are in a constant dialogue with our audience. Therefore, we can continually tailor updates to fit the evolving tastes and desire of the player base.
WHAT IS THE HARDEST PART ABOUT YOUR JOB?
In step with my answer to the previous question, one of the hardest parts of the job is keeping up with the demands of our players. Luckily, our players are very vocal about what they want. We are constantly taking in feedback from the forms and through our Public Test Server in putting together an update plan that will really shine.
WHAT MAKES DUNGEON FIGHTER ONLINE STAND APART FROM THE OTHER MMO GAMES THAT ARE POPPING UP EVERYWHERE?
Taking games online has opened up whole new possibilities, and Dungeon Fighter Online is a perfect example. Here you have, at its core, a fighting game, one that draws elements from all the greatest fighting games of all time. There is a wide variance of fighting styles, some incredible special skills, a vast array of customization options, and-the MMO part-you can play with or against each other. And Dungeon Fighter Online is not just a fighting game, and not just an MMO, it's a fighting MMORPG, so there is also, on top of the fighting mechanics and customization, a whole world to explore, packed with lore, charging the player with the responsibility of leveling up so they are better able to help save the land of Arad from the plague of the Apostles.
WHAT ARE SOME OF THE COMMUNITY SYSTEMS IN PLACE TO HELP PLAYERS ENJOY DUNGEON FIGHTER ONLINE?
First of all, all kinds of chat options allow players to communicate with each other in the exact way they want to. Also, players can join Guilds, for which the better individual members play, the better the stat boosts for the whole Guild. DFO's trading system is a vital part of the in-game economy. Players can trade items outright, set up their own shops to sell their wares, or peruse other shops for that special, coveted item. Our website also fosters a strong sense of community, featuring fan generated content, an active DFO forum, polls, and this is just the beginning.
WHICH CHARACTER CLASS DO YOU MOST LIKE TO PLAY?
I started playing a Fighter and have to say that she's my favorite, because I like to get in close to my opponents and deal heavy damage. But testing the Female Gunner during our prep work for our Official Launch on June 9th, I have to say, I really dig her. She's fast like the fighter, so she is maneuverable from close in, but, like the Male Gunner, she can lay down some pretty vicious distance attacks.
MAJOR UPDATES ANNOUNCEMENTS HAVE ALREADY BEEN MADE - WHAT CAN WE EXPECT AND WHEN?
When we launched on June 9 - we added, as I mentioned above, the Female Gunner, as well as some more Awakenings (these are the Level 48 super-class benefits for characters). And we introduced our Hell Mode, which features near impossible monsters...but if you can beat them, you have the chance to get Epic items, which are also new to the game. With our June 30th update last week we launched a whole slew of Independence Day events, the Tower of Illusion-which is a cross between playing our dungeon mode and our arena mode-and we introduced a brand new NPC, Streadolfitz Dread-Bringer Scott, who was voted on by our players back in April. Coming up soon we are going to be launching the Auction System, which will make shopping around for the specific item you want a whole lot easier.
WHICH GUILTY PLEASURE GAME DO YOU OWN, THAT YOU DON'T LIKE TO ADMIT YOU PLAY?
A game that I like to play but can't admit it? Tell you in the private intimacy of GameTrailers.com? Okay, why not. Legos Star Wars. Played through both in a matter of weeks, and after I finished I had to give them away. They are addicting, and now here, on GamerTrailers.com, I have admitted an embarrassing addiction.
WHAT DO YOU RECOMMEND TO PEOPLE WHO WANT TO GET A JOB IN THE GAME INDUSTRY?
Don't be afraid to start at the bottom. You're not going to get immediately hired to be an artist, a level designer, a concept developer or any of those positions you may eventually want to hold. But you will eventually get there. The most important thing to do is start working for a company that you really like, and then learn from them. No matter how much of an expert you are, playing video games and working in video games are entirely different beasts. There is a lot you don't know, and that's fine. Starting at the bottom is a great way to learn all aspects of the industry.
