What is the best weapon to wield? (As in sword or hammer)

Hammer is better in nearly ever single way possible.
Better damage output, speed is comparable to swords, and you have quite a few more options (repeated smashes, charged smashes, super armor). Only downside is that it costs a LOT more than a Sword and you'll need to get some attack speed in order to make Hammers a bit easier to use.

Kinda.
But hammers get
Ornate, which in and of itself compensates for a lot. The longsword equivalent just can't match up. Even if it costs more, you're getting a lot in return.

Cool, is there any good hammer-skill build guides for fiona?
-
Invertex wrote on 2012-04-13 05:22
There aren't really any specific build guides.
Most of the Sword or Hammer specific skills aren't overly important. At most you'll want Crushing Arc r9 and a few ranks on Butterfly Blow/Stigma Hammer as those are your main damage dealers. But just take any guide that gives a Fiona build and ignore the Sword stuff.
Our site currently lacks an up to date Fiona guide, but you can use Bakuryu's "Fiona General Guide" for a rough idea.

Alright, sorry to keep bothering you as you can see I'm new to this game.
I'm just wondering what kind of equipment & weapons should I be wearing for general range of levels
-
Invertex wrote on 2012-04-13 21:04
Well.
Levels 1 - 24: Just use the default equipment that the storyline quests give you. You'll have to start out using swords, but early in Ainle you should be able to swap your sword in for a hammer.
Level 25~50: At this point, you'll want to make a Spider Lord set around Lv. 40 and upgrade it into a Laghodessa set around 44. Your weapons up until this point should vary, but try to go through about 1-2 Hammers as you progress through these levels. I'd do something like Capricorn -> Crasher Long Hammer. Your shield should likely be the Eagle Heart you get as a quest reward, and the Kite Shield you need for Large Shield Mastery. Shields are a lot more interchangeable than weapons, and should be switched out based off what mission you're running.
Level 50-59: You can choose to go with Shining Will and an Ivory Hammer at this point. But you could wait it out for the big jump at Lv. 60.
Level 60+: I'm going to refrain from giving you advice about this for now as this post has been really brief and I've skipped out on a ton of minor details I would've loved to go into more detail if you had a more specific question. But know that at this point gear gets very important and very confusing at the same time.

Alright I'm level 15 and I have a crimson set, was that a waste of time
-
Invertex wrote on 2012-04-13 23:20
Well, it's a good set at that point. I don't mention too much about the low levels as you can reach the mid 30s very easily under casual levels of play. Levels move by too quickly for you to really want to maximize stats at every possible opportunity. Honestly, equipment is "cheap" until you reach the Spider Lord/Laghodessa set. That can cost a bit, but you should be able to push with that set until you reach endgame level equipment.
At this point, you can afford to mess around with a lot of equipment. Money is very easy to come by if you sell some Magic Powders you've likely picked up along the way.

So what kind of equipment and hammer should I be aiming for?
-
Invertex wrote on 2012-04-17 21:00
I'm pretty bad with Hammers until endgame, since I was a pure Sword Fiona until a few months ago.
Around Lv. 44, aim to get a full Laghodessa set.
Around Lv. 52-56, aim to get at least an Ivory Hammer. Get a Shining Will Set if you want.
Around Lv. 60, you can try for a mix of the Black Hammer and Swift sets. That's the most popular. Get a Hammer too: Shining Clap, Chiulin, and Black Hammer are all good choices.
At Lv. 70, you can get the Lv. 70 dragon set. But that's really expensive so don't plan for it. Aim for a good 60 set.

RebeccaBlack wrote on 2012-04-17 22:58
Don't even bother with the level 70 set, honestly. A better level 70 set is coming in the not-so-distant future (probably several months). For now, worry about your weapon if you're able to acquire that much money/level to 70 in that timespan. The full level 70 set would set you back a huge amount of gold only to have an even better one come out.

Also of note is that I believe the Ep10 Hammer outclasses the current Lv. 70 Ep9.5 Hammer. So don't even bother touching the Lv. 70 stuff for now if you're a Hammer Fiona (Swords might want a Ep9.5 instead though).

So what's the point of sword fiona? She must have SOME redeeming factor over hamionas right? Maybe better survivlablity?

Well, it's a bit off topic. But there isn't a valid one. Sword Fiona isn't a bad class by any standards, but she is just so inferior compared to Hammer Fiona that you might as well switch.
I'm fully capable of hitting 30% on Dragon with a Hammer. Give me a Sword and I predict that I'll get ~15% at best.
