Minus the alchemy and magic stuff, Enlightenment buffed defense wrong. Strength to Defense Stat ratio is horribly unbalanced to where it gives you most of your defense, even more than what Wind Guard offers, and Defense skill with Shield is completely broken to the point where Magic Shields are obsolete.
Increasing defense bonuses are fine, but not if they go into ridiculous magnitudes.
Aside from "Large Shields"bonus when using Defense, I don't really see the Defense skill's bonuses as being a problem. Actively using a skill rather than just wearing some armor is something I'd actually encourage too.
Yea, I don't really approve of the Str/Will defensive updates but I have no right to complain about them.
In particular, I like what they did with Armor and Shields with the Enlightenment update, and actually made you think more about what kind of shields you want to use. Although some of them make no sense, like Composite Shield being a light shield. I was hoping they were going to do that with other types of equipment though.
The real horrible part about Enlightenment 's defensive changes was Mana Shield. Enlightenment/Druid both buffed magic a lot, as well as made Mana Shield not use defensive stats. As well as Alchemy damage being influenced my MP, and some Dual Gun skills using MP. That being said, Mana Shield became crap. In a game where you self hybridize, Mana Shield is a huge waste of your MP compared to all the other things you should be doing with it. It killed Mana Shield for me (while simultaneously making Magic more satisfying).
