The parents absolutely disgusted me.

This just goes to show that religion, of any form that regards homosexuality among other things as a sin (Which would be most if not all) are the things holding the god damned government back from doing anything because thats how people are raised: In religious cults that tell you "This is what you can like, this is what you can't like, This is what you can do, this is what you can't do, This is the kind of person you can be friends with, this is the kind of person you should ignore entirely"
I'll just make one thing clear. You know how people look at groups that use god but are really some malformed thing and call it a cult? To me all forms of religions are cults worshiping something we don't even know if it exists because that's simply human nature for some people. They just need something to pray to that gives false hope (only later to be crushed if things go bad then have someone tell them "It happens for a reason"...BULL SHIT)
All religion is bullshit and I don't care if I offend anyone. To me if we didn't have all of this, and if religion was moved from the equation. Then guess what you get?
HOLY FUCKING SHIT IT'S WORLD PEACE. THERE'S NO DIFFERENT RELIGIONS TELLING US TO KILL EACH-OTHER IN THE NAME OF GOD!
EVERYONE ACCEPTS EACH-OTHER.
GAY PEOPLE CAN GET MARRIED.
THE GOVERNMENT IS A LOT FUCKING BETTER AND NOT SOMEWHAT RELIGIOUSLY BIASED.
MORE UNDERSTANDINGS ARE MADE.
/endrant.
Oh right the video.
I do feel sorry for him. I just wish we can live in a world where no one cares if your L/G/B/T.
Those parents are just religiously brainwashed assholes.

I'm sorry but the world isn't as black and white as you make it seem.
Even if religion is taken out of the question, wars would still be fought and not everything would be "perfect".
Quite frankly ... belief systems are so integral to human beings - to remove them would be in essence, removing a personal mindset.
Of course, seemingly an emotional reaction - I won't delve too far into this. Although, If you are curious ... a sign of world peace - is a sign of the end to come.
In any case, this is truly a sad incident ... did Tom ... commit suicide?
Even myself being Christian, the way those parents acted was simply horrendous. How could you treat your own child like that? ... It simply baffles me.

I know I was just being over dramatic. If the world was like that I'm sure it would be somewhat better.
But I don't believe in the last line of your statement. I just don't buy in to the world ending crap. Seeing as: While the core of the earth will probably burn out, or the sun finally dies and collapses in on itself, I just don't see that happening anytime I'm alive so I don't think about it(Unless somehow radioactive zombies leap out of the movie screen. Oh yeah Zombies are the biggest piece of bullshit in the category of "Shit that will never happen"). Not to mention I don't believe in the whole Myan calendar.
I agree that war would still be fought...mostly over land, territory, power etc. But all the so called holy war bullshit would be gone.
I'm getting off topic...but all in all. I stand by my point in all religion being an abomination created to just be there so people can get suckered into ideological beliefs built on ancient books and writings.

And another point added to the tally of "Losing faith in humanity". I like to believe that if we were all dead, the world would be a much better place. Sure there won't be happiness, but when people keep saying, "It gets better", it means to me that one must go through pain before he/she can enjoy happiness. Absolutely demoralizing.
The youtube comments say he fell off the roof and that it was an "accident". Why would he be up on the roof by the edge in the first place if he wasn't contemplating suicide?
tl;dr the world would be a much better place without humans.

Congratulations.
Humans are now extinct.
However in their absence over a period of thousands of years animals evolve into furries.
You just made some of humanity's nightmare come to Fruition.

I
I didn't think of it like that.
Sit down and suppose reincarnation is true and they regain their memories of being human and remembering how much they hated furries.
It would offer them a nice home with 4 walls made of cotteny pillows.
I for one wouldn't doubt that animals would evolve like that if humans went extinct.
If the theory of evolution is right, and we evolved from cimps, then I could see it happening with other mammals. I mean for gods sake. It could of happened with a fox or every animal.
Then I would of sat here and said.
'Congratulations, furries are extinct
however in their absence over a period of thousands of years monkeys evolved into humans.
You just made some of humanity's nightmare come to Fruition.'
then I would remark about how that if I were human how I would word the above differently and so on in a never ending cycle.

I don't even ...
If you wish to harbor such negativity towards belief systems, well best of luck to you then. Calling religion an "abomination" - half the things you take for granted, solely exist due to religion. Will you brashly reject those as well?
I won't even entertain the notion any longer - since I don't want to make a "debate" out of this.
I actually looked up information about the video - apparently Tom fell accidentally when taking a picture of a model.
Still equally as unfortunate though.

Clean water, electricity, this forums, high speed internet, computer... and etc...
Those solely exist due to religion? Not because of a combination of business and science?
Perhaps you want to take into account all of the thousands of no-longer practiced religions out there as well. There isn't much different between those and the current ones. Same for the ones that have yet to come. (or being created)

I understand that and all but I agree that some of what we have now exists due to religion(Saying half is a little extreme). I'm just disgusted with how religion works.
>Worship god
>Tell people how to live
>Become a Cult
>Command your whole life
>Control how you see things
The best example of cult religion is the Mormonism. My sister was with them for a while before she said "I can't participate anymore I'm sticking with my family's religious belief. (Which is or was Christan) Well that was when she was around oh...18 maybe a year or two older? Well we eventually moved out of state to Virginia were we currently live
(dad is in the military so moving was mandatory) . The Mormons, followed our address, sent us letters, occasionally came to our house asking about her. Until it finally got really bad where, one day: They came by, Dad threatened them to leave..they did(Some people dont understand "U.S property no trespassing) not even 25 seconds after they left, and this was really scarey, they called the fucking house phone.
We resolved the problem and threatened legal action. We didn't want it to come to that but some people are just thick-headed. Anyway if they ever came by again and I was home alone I would not hesitate with calling the police and having them either arrested for continued harassment or have them escorted off the property and have a fine slapped on their church.
Maybe now you can understand my hostility towards cults.

The parents actions were not condoned by the religion they are said to follow. To blame religion for their crimes serves only to stoke one's personal vendetta.
That said, the video was fairly disheartening. What we should take from it, though, is that gay marriage isn't something we can afford to sit on the sidelines with. I can tell you right now that I, personally, don't think it's a great idea in some respects. At the same time, the government should not have a hand in deciding for everyone whether it's a good idea or not. Blocking such marriages on the basis of religion contradicts the principles thereof, at least in the case of my own.
The parents are a prime example of what happens when people are brought up being told what to think instead of how to think. As painful as it might be, every child deserves the right to make their own final decisions, and more importantly, they need to be able to engage in critical thinking.

When he said that the person's mother said it was a
sin indicated that their reaction was partially based on religion.
But I agree with the rest of what you said.

There's a difference between religion and evangelism. You'd all do well to learn it. Mormons aren't the ideal example for all religions, as a large number of Catholics, Protestants, Buddhists, Hindus, Taoists, Confucianists, Sikhs, and heck, even Satanists won't go around trying to recruit more members. Perhaps the reason religious people are viewed as these zealots is because only the zealots make a ton of noise about it. Only the most outspoken (extreme) parts of the religious community are heard, from there ignorance takes over and associates every single Christian, Muslim, Jew, Buddhist, Taoist, Hindu, Sikh, Confucianist and whatever hell other religion you want to throw in to the list, as some type of crazy nut-job. I got news for ya, we're not all like that. I'm perfectly happy to let gays be gay and have their rights (fyi, you don't need marriage, there's something called a civil union that gives ya everything you want, the diction of the term doesn't mean squat).
