I'm looking for animes (or mangas) that have lots of pain, blood, suffering, and death. The main characters must not be ugly and suffer many tragedies, and hopefully die by the end, as martyrs. Blood and gore are not mandatory, but much appreciated; however, pain and suffering are a must!
Having happy parts is fine, so long long as pain and suffering follow. Not everyone needs to die, but the more death, the better. The characters who are doing the suffering and dying should be well developed, likable characters who are worth seeing in pain, rather than worthless characters who you know nothing about, who may even be nameless.
Already watched:
School Days, Another, Mirai Nikki, Elfen Lied, Higurashi, Umineko (which sucked a lot), 11 eyes (which sucked), Kara no Kyoukai (not particularly good), Tenjou Tenge, Code Geass, Fate/Zero, and Tsuiokuhen.
Already read (a lot less here):
Shin Angyo Onshi, Deadman Wonderland, Akame ga Kill, and Hellsing.
Non-anime and manga stuff also fine, but there's a lot less of what I look for outside of that (from my experience).

Yea, it fits your entire request. Though a heads up, it's usually a hit or a miss between loving the series or completely hating the series in the anime community, so it has quite the fanboys and haters.
First OP

I enjoyed all of these series, especially Ga-rei and Phantom. I prefer Comedy over other genre, but some are just exceptional and should be watched no matter what.

If anything, it's nice to watch for the music (and I mean the soundtrack, not just the OPs and EDs) and visuals. It's one of those things that's going to leave you with questions though. It also has some of those moments where it feels like a fanfiction, where things happen for no real reason other than it looks good. My friend was seething with rage while watching. She warmed me ahead of time so I just didn't go in with any expectations. It didn't wow me but the visuals were nice. Hyouka has a lot less action but I find it far more interesting.
In therms of making cooky visuals work, Mawaru Penguindrum's probably one of my favorites. It seems like nothing makes sense at first, but in the end, it makes so much sense it hurts.

It did for me when I thought about it. Then, at the end, I went back and re-watched the first episode, and my brain practically exploded.
