Camera style is like Mabinogi
Art style is like Mabinogi + Vindictus
I'm glad it will be skill based lol..
EDIT:
Also, when making games is your JOB, I'm sure you don't want to be making the same type of games all the time. (COD?)
It's one thing I like about DevCat.
The art style isn't very western either. It's similar to some contemporary korean artists(Blade & Soul?)
Did you honestly just make a comparison to the annualized series that is Call of Duty? Right, because semi-sandbox MMORPGs completely over saturate the current MMORPG market. They created Mabinogi back in what, 2003? They're hardly pumping out the same type of game over and over again. Though I do agree that in the end, it's up to the developers. It is what it is.

Again, this is exactly what the TOR defenders said. Everytime people saw an unsettling sign from the game, people like you started going "Don't judge it yet, it's just a trailer!" Which turned into "Don't judge it yet, it's just beta!" Which turned into "Don't judge it yet, it just launched!" If this was going to be a proper sequel to Mabinogi, wouldn't it, you know, emphasize the things that people like about Mabinogi? That's usually what "sequels" do, unless you're trying to capture a whole new demographic to make more money.
You don't need to wait until the boat's hit the iceberg to know it's in trouble.
Agreed. Every scenario can pan out differently, but it
is possible to extrapolate based on what we've seen and read thus far. Mabinogi 2: Arena has clearly gone in a different direction, Nexon has stated as much back in August.
Mabinogi 2, based on the Mabinogi back-story, is an entirely new game with a completely different game world and gameplay characteristics than the original. We believe it will unlock a new audience for our games.

The developers want to continue the original Mabinogi philosophy but they also wanted to create a new type of genre called MMO-Arena.
The developers points out that Mabinogi 2 Arena is a lot like Mabinogi Heroes but once you start playing, it will be a totally different game. The gameplay will have some of the stuff that original Mabinogi players enjoyed like the wide variety of Smash skills!
Right, that's why so many people enjoy Mabinogi! The smash skills! Not the fact that it offers an MMO experience unlike any other game on the market, but the smash skills.
None of this raises a red flag to anyone? I suppose adopting the, "wait and see" attitude is the most reasonable approach because in all honesty, none of us have a clue at this point. I could quite easily be wrong. I suppose that's why we're forming opinions and
discussing this topic in a
forum. But so far, nothing I've seen has suggested that this will be a successor to Mabinogi. Hence the concern voiced by people who
enjoy Mabinogi.
Like I stated above, it's not as if there's a wealth of MMOs out there that are comparable to Mabinogi in terms of mechanics. ArcheAge and Black Desert Online seem like likely candidates, but these titles are a long way off. I've seen others say, "Just keep playing Mabinogi then!" That's all well and good, but Mabinogi is already long in the tooth as it is. Not to mention the engine is marred by technical limitations and glitches.
