They honestly look so mediocre. They're ranged, but... that's about it. I'm sure they'll adjust it though.

Honestly, the damage on them look pretty... average.
Just going off the Hidden video alone, the times per run are like.
Dual Blade
45 seconds. 38 seconds. 38 seconds.
Twin Sword.
15 seconds. 22 seconds. 19 seconds.
I mean yes you have to adjust for the fact that AFK probably doesn't know precisely how to play Dual Blade yet. But they're really lacking in the raw DPS department currently, which means that it's not going to see much use.
Also a Clash.

Ya I noticed that the dual blade runs took a lot longer to finish than the twin sword runs. I'm assuming he used comparable level weapons.

From the video description.
Although this is nowhere near to be an accurate comparison it can't hurt to have a look :P
Things to consider
Both specs have all essential skills maxed out
Dualblade 15.1k att with a 11+ lv70 weapon
Dualsword 15.2k att with a 12+ lv 60 weapon and enchants
Dualblade had the advantage to get some stacks of clarity while clearing out trash mobs
The battle itself gives a big advantage to Dualsword since it has free reign to go all out against hidden
I'm still completely new at handling Dualblade
This is the test server, nothing is final here. Heck, with this game, you can't be even sure with the changes on the live servers.
Other things that are my own interjections.
Giant Spider has 3k Def or so, so both of these weapons are capped. This naturally gives the +12 some advantage due to additional speed and damage and such.
Looking at some of the more specific numbers, and some more info on Dual Blade, AFK still isn't really playing it properly (starting a full length combo then constantly flipping to maintain it). The burst from 0:37 to 0:40 is about 10k damage dealt in 3 seconds, but requires an additional 4 seconds of wind up and her Clarity buff (I think) which makes that sound really mediocre when compared to virtually any other class.
I mean just from this video, go to 0:59 to 1:04 and you'll see 15k damage in around the same time frame. Which is still a 50% advantage in comparable scenarios.
And trust me, Twin Sword Vella gets free reign in a lot of scenarios. So that one point AFK makes isn't all too important.
Edit:
Oh and

From what I can tell, Mist Slash is the short combo filler (akin to LR for Fiona), Luminous Rush seems to be the best DPS move, and you just sort of slot in a Sonorous Feel at the end.

Alright, AFK uploaded something that should be of interest to people.

"One thing just came up, I tried hammer with a better rotation and it, when averaged out, cleared the battle about 20 seconds quicker. The clear order is still the same but 20 seconds is still a big difference."
Not accurate, but accurate enough to show... haha that DPS.

Probably the best Dual Blade gameplay I've seen yet. From what I've seen thus far, you can only repeat Luminous Rush while in Cold Blooded, which requires hitting the boss a few times for Clarity then activating it (akin to Blade Heart). Also that Vampire Kiss to dodge requires SP, you only get to use it for free out of SE or Life Flare.

And lastly this video which is honestly pretty awful, but mainly included for quoting purposes.
It's a test server, so they can and probably will fix some issues, i don't like:
- slow dodge [long attack animations and dodge doesn't cancel them]
- pressing TAB to chain the boss and attack him makes you volnurable to his attacks [no invi frames]
- attacking makes you move towards the boss, hence he can hit you easier
- very low damage output
- SP skill that catches leg of a monster works only on mobs that could be chained by other players (useles in most raids)
- probably many more...
And that concludes my daily repost of things Sakura has on their tumblr. No seriously, just go there if you actually want info.

And also in short, haha that damage.

I think one of the balancing issues inherent to this game is that there aren't a whole lot of fights that reward AOE. The large sweep range on the dual blades is wasted on most bosses because the cost to having that extra range is lower dmg output. The repeated luminous rush looks really good, but it seems like it is a bit difficult to build up the clarity needed.

That order's exactly the one I would've guessed, and about in line with what I was thinking. Spears first, Vella a little later, then hammers, then chains. Surprised chains kept so close to hammers, but apparently the optimization fixed that and made hammers 20 sec faster.

I have to ask, in the video, was I correct in seeing Vella use SH but not Spear Lann?
-
Invertex wrote on 2013-01-28 23:48
Wouldn't suprise me if that was the case. I'm not familiar with how Spear Lann builds SP, but AFK didn't GF with Spear Lann and seemed to have had Havan do more attacks on the Spear Lann one. But again, this isn't meant to be super accurate, just meant to get a general feel for how the damage matches up.
Which is the commonly accepted Spear Lann / Bow Kai / Sword Vella top 3.

Do you know how low Sword Lann is then?
-
Invertex wrote on 2013-01-29 00:36
Just under the top 3. Probably sitting there with Scythe Evie, maybe Sword Fiona. Crossgun looks like it's going to fall here as well. Most of the well geared Lanns just realize that there are very few areas where Sword actually beats Spears though, so that's why you rarely see extremely high level and well geared Sword Lanns.
For the NA community perspective, there's a reason why it's generally agreed Sword Lanns are on tent for Kraken and Spears are always on head.
Below that it's mostly a mess, probably ends up being like Hammer Fiona, Staff Evie, Pillar Karok, Cestus Karok, then Dual Blade Vella.
Also note that this is extremely vague and shouldn't actually be quoted, ever. I have my reasons for listing things as I have, I simply don't feel like writing it out and I'm farming Laghodessa as I'm typing this. You can't just boil everything down to a simple listing, there's a variety of reasons any class could work in any scenario.
And also while most people cite the top 3, I'd much rather cite top 2 (Bow Kai/Spear Lann) as they're much more consistent.
-
RebeccaBlack wrote on 2013-01-29 00:51
Completely disagree. Vella is super consistent. So consistent, in fact, that she doesn't keep up when the others pull ahead. The others are either "pretty good" or "great", but she's always just "pretty good". She's better equipped to handle more with less, though, on any gear level, despite not always doing it the fastest.
Kais are arguably consistently great, I admit ._.
-
Invertex wrote on 2013-01-29 01:52
Main reason I say inconsistent is on certain bosses (Lakoria and Kraken, sometimes Dragons) Tumult can't hit twice. Tumult hits twice on Havan, so that's why it's close to Spear in that video. On a boss without ample Cross Cut chances, she also starts to lose damage. Cut both these out, and she falls to below Scythe and Sword Lann.
Kraken again, from what I've gathered Vella usually goes tent instead of head. S2E1 in general is awful for Vella.
That's what I mean by consistent.
