Is it that they're used to death? I remember on the news hearing that a day with no deaths occurred in Mexico and people were beyond surprised.
Oh and my friend showed me this [Image: http://sphotos-a.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-ash4/393326_10152351759460331_194066111_n.jpg]

I like how everyone is assuming he has mental problems. There have been no statements saying he had mental problems. Not from his parents. Not from his brother. Not from his friends. Not even from the police. In fact, the way he planned it it looks very clearly like he DIDN'T have mental problems.
So before you go assuming that he was mentally unstable and feeling sorry for the man that murdered 20 children in cold blood, remember that some people are just assholes. Not every murderer has mental problems.
LOLWUT If you shoot 20 kids, you obviously have mental problems. Normal, healthy, people don't do those things. The fact that he planned it doesn't mean he wasn't crazy. Psychopaths can be very intelligent.

I'm not sure what's supposed to be funny about that. Although, I don't really think this guy was a psychopath. More likely he was emotionally disturbed.

Someone who goes out and harms large groups of people always has a mental problem. Always. If "being an asshole" is your definition of what happened, then being an asshole is a mental problem. Even if no previous signs were shown, this act alone shows not only that something is wrong but that this person has the reasonable capacity to act upon their thoughts. What I'm saying isn't that people who do this are all the same. What I'm saying is that this
is the problem. It was almost certainly caused by something else, but it's still the problem.
If we don't measure it by things like this, then what do we measure it by? People who make others uncomfortable in social situations? Who gives a shit about that?
How we look at the problem or how we address people with problems is another issue entirely.

@Nithi; um they've been saying since Friday that the shooter was on the autism spectrum.

Source: Here.
Another law enforcement official, also speaking on condition of anonymity, said Lanza had been diagnosed with Asperger's, a mild form of autism often characterized by social awkwardness.
People with the disorder are often highly intelligent. While they can become frustrated more easily, there is no evidence of a link between Asperger's and violent behaviour, experts say.

I knew a kid who had aspergers.
He was the nicest guy, but everyone took advantage of his awkwardness to tease and make fun of him.
It was awful.

Indeed...
There's a kid in my JROTC class who has Asperger's as well (though the disease technically doesn't exist anymore; it's all "autism spectrum disorder" now). Nice kid most of the time, no control over his actions and definitely has plenty of moments when he snaps.
Why this kid (the shooter) didn't have the support he needed is a question I want an answer to.

The BBC news reports mentioned that he was mentally ill.

While it may be difficult to comprehend, most killers are perfectly sane. Even those that go after children.

Also, the shooter's mother was a "gun enthusiast" who was stocking up for the apocalypse/another economic crisis (possibly not locking up her guns properly), and frequently brought her sons to a shooting range from a young age.
This makes me angry. I'm sorry, but there's no fucking way I would let my child, who can't live an independent life due to mental illness, near a gun, and i'm super pro-Second Amendment.
Indeed, this is not the time or place to discuss this, but this could've been prevented.
All I know is that this has rattled me and everyone around me more than any event or tragedy since 9/11. My mom keeps crying and making me swear to save my own ass if someone's coming to hurt me, and when we started to hear about it in class she started crying and telling us that she would do whatever she could to save us and that she wouldn't be able to live with herself if anything happened to any of us. I keep having nightmares about it.
Sigh.

I don't think you can call anyone who goes on a random shooting spree like this "sane". Anders Brevik, maybe, but I think he at the very least suffers from extreme narcissism. The act of randomly murdering innocent people is in itself not a sane act.
