Are you guys talking about Moga quests or the single player port thing?

Considering the thing said about G rank quests I would assume they're doing the Tianzi port quests.
@Hitaki: Got any tip on playing bowgun (Heavy or Light) solo? I liked them in Tri but I just don't seem to be able to hunt efficiently with them in 3U

There's usually two things I do before hunting a monster as a gunner : Look up it's weakness to use a suitable bowgun that can use the ammo of it's weakness, and learn the monster's attack pattern. It goes without saying that once you've got a monster's attack patterns down that you'll have little to no problem taking it down. Because you can't exactly guard like a Greatsword or Lance user, dodging is everything for a gunner (Unless you use a shield).
People say that Heavy Bowguns are more suited for solo play and Light Bowguns are more suited for multiplayer. Me however, I'd say that choosing your bowgun depends on the type of monster your fighting. In the end however, you're going to be focusing a lot of your time on dodging and taking the most advantage of your range.
If you're fighting a fast monster and you feel the mobility on your Heavy Bowgun is too slow, don't be afraid to switch to a Light Bowgun. They may deal less damage and take longer to kill an enemy, but they give you an edge in a difficult fight with their mobility and quicker reload speeds.
In addition, Pellet shots are your best friend in solo hunts. Pellet shots are very unpopular with multiplayer because they can hit blademasters that are next to your target and interrupt their combos, but when that's not the case they're amazing. Personally I find they break monster parts the quickest. Piercing shots come most useful for fighting huge monsters, though they're also effective against foes like Lagiacrus who have long body types.
Later on when you hit G-rank you can remove the limiter of your bowguns. For the case of Heavy Bowguns, it takes away their crouch fire, yet improves their fire power as well as the effectiveness of their shields. For Light Bowguns it means you don't have rapid fire, but you'll be able to load ALL of your available ammo at once. For both bowguns, the limiter removal makes you slower. I haven't actually tried the upgrades in-depth, so I'm assuming that removing your limiter on your HBG will change your play style to mimic that of a gunlance. What I really want to try out is the Light Bowgun limiter removal. Having all my ammo loaded at once sounds incredible.

Woah didn't expect so much info. Thanks for all of that. I'll refer to this when I decide to pick up bowgun again when I'm done making my main weapons.
As far as armor set goes what armor skills should I aim (not pun intended) for?
-
Hitaki wrote on 2013-04-02 22:04
As for as armor skills go they're pretty subjective. For gunners in particular you want to aim for Reload Speed and Recoil Down, but other than those kinds of skills the desirable armor skills are the same as Blademasters, typically skills like Evade +, Expert, Potential, etc.
My personal favorite armor set is Zinogre armor. The G-rank version gives Reload Speed, Gloves Off, and enough room for charms to add to Evade. Not to mention it looks great.
Edit : In addition to my previous post, when you become more used to fighting a certain monster with a Light Bowgun, you should try your hand with how you fair against it with a Heavy Bowgun. A Light Bowgun makes it easier to learn how to dodge monsters' attack patterns with it's enhanced mobility until you've got it's mannerisms down to the point where you can perfectly predict them.

Ill buy a wii U when i hit that wall i did in the psp version. I had to buy a wifi max when i hit + rank as i lacked the ability to solo some of the harder stuff without frustration.
However after over 1500+ lifetime hours of the monster hunter series, i did not expect to do all of moga with the basic leather armor set (upgraded to "max). however purple ludroth was quite the potion drain. Now i am working towards agna sets due to its superior lancing synergy.
Guess that's how much i was used to using lances.
I very much enjoy this series as much as the japanese do.
If anyone has a Wii U copy of the game and is interested in playing sometime, drop a PM, ill pick up a wii u sometime.

Oh god there was an MH3U thread here all along? Finally. Somewhere besides /vg/ that I can talk about it on. I really need a party to play with, since soloing gets pretty boring. Anyone want to play together? Please PM me with details and stuffs. I'm not quite sure how the Wii U's friendlist work, other than knowing that I can add you guys through being in the same MH3U room.
I've spent so many hours with Monster Hunter, most of them in Frontier and 2G. Then I've spent even more on Tri and P3rd-- but now this is seriously taking up so much of my time that I'm almost dropping all of my other games just to play it.
So far, I've finished all of the key village quests and urgents except for Alatreon. I really... REALLY-- don't have the patience to finish all the village quests just to face him. I'm a dedicated Evade Gunlancer and my current set is the Nargacuga Set with Recovery Speed Gemmed in cause I'm on one of the... "meh" non-cursed tables, which is table 2 in my opinion. Sooo I've got Evade + 2 (yes, I'm aware Evade + 1 works just as good, but I just don't feel complete without + 2), Evade Dist, Sneak, and Recovery +1. As of right now I'm using Princess Panoply + and waiting for the G Rank Rathian so I can get the next upgrade. Sometimes when I'm bored I use Lances and Hammers, but I'm working on going full anti-fun and getting the Kelbi Bow just for times when I want to mess around.
Also, I really.. REALLY. hate fighting Brachydios. As an Evade GL, I seriously can't use most of my dodges without getting an explosion to the face. I can dodge most of his normal attacks, but when he goes super enraged mode, I can dodge his fists but the explosions still get me. Ffffff. But that's the only monster I'm having troubles with. Zinogre, Nargacuga, and Baleful Gigginox are like jump rope monsters where I just hop over all of their attacks-- the funnest.

It's annoying to hit the head with a hammer. For most monsters you can get a snipe in when they turn around. Brachydios just punches
you in the head when he turns around.
I'd totally love to play online and stuff, but I lack a Wii U for that or I'd be allllLLllLlLlll over that shit.

By the time MH4 gets released in NA/Wherever you live you'd have got the money to buy a 3ds if you chose to go with the wiiU version of this one. I don't expect MH4 before the second half of 2014 if we do get it.
If you have any interest in the other 3DS games currently released or upcoming release then yeah get the 3ds version. On the hand if MH3U would be your only game and you have no interest in other 3DS games, don't travel much and/or don't have friends with the game; get yourself the WiiU version for online play.
This is assuming a couple of things:
-I actually want to have both a 3DS and a WiiU.
-My money isn't being funneled elsewhere.
The contrary is true for both these things.
Regarding gunner... afaik it hasn't changed too much from P3rd so if you have time I recommend reading up on
mazereon's gunning guide for P3rd to get an idea of various things you should be aware of. Pick your shots carefully (proper hitzone targeting is even more important for gunners than other weapon users), make sure you're using the most effective shots and have combines for them. The type of bowgun you use is also incredibly important (again, moreso than with other weapons) due to the varying characteristics. Pellet is okay, it used to absolutely destroy certain monsters in P2G/FU (diablos in particular) but they really toned this down. Generally the DPS of pellet is outdone by other monster specific shot but it's still decent and fun to use, valuable for people new to gunning too. Unless they changed Narga armor then it's fairly good "generalist" armor for gunners with great boosts like Evade+ and Evade Dist.

3DS is local only unless you have a Wii U to enable it.

New Zealand got a ridiculously small amount of copies of MH3U in and we're not getting anymore. All copies through other means now come from Australia and I dunno how many of those there are >_>

Argh. G-Rank Gigginox is so freaking annoying, and I need 2 Nightmarish Maws to get the Gunner Set. Anyone G-Rank wanting to help me out? (US)
