I think what Makoto was saying is that the pumpkin set is similar to chameleos set.

I can see the similarity between the two.

Just took down the Dire Miralis for the first time. At first, I felt a little intimidated not knowing what the hell he does, especially when two of our guys wiped and I was pressured to focus on dodging rather than killing.
That ended up paying off for me on the second run since I was able to observe his attack pattern and start testing which parts to aim for first and which parts were breakable. Then on our third run I knew exactly how to handle the guy.
All in all I'd say he looks intimidating, but he's a fairly easy elder dragon. Goes without saying that any large elder dragon is usually the kind of target a Gunner can eat alive, but I really had a lot of fun hunting this guy. I'm probably going to keep hunting him until I make his bowguns and bow.

Thanks to Hitaki's advices I finally managed to get used to bowgun, light bowgun at least. Is there really a point in switching to heavy bowgun though? Rapidfire of elemental shot from different light bowgun pretty much give me access to 180ish shot. Is the damage on a hbg that much of a difference to offset the damage caused by rapid fire-ing?

HBG are good because of their crouch fire. People who are skilled with them usually use smoke bombs along with crouch fire to unload an arsenal of pain on whatever they're facing. All in all they deal a ton of damage, yet leave you fairly vulnerable. However if you can learn to master them, as well as take advantage of skills like Adrenaline +2, you could become a walking artillery. It's just very risky if you don't know how to dodge / what you're doing.
Seriously though, smoke bombs are ridiculous. You could throw one down and dance right in front of a monster and he won't notice you. They're pretty much the best things to have when you're at HR8+ and want to do those dual hunts in the land arena.
Personally LBGs are just my preference for their mobility and their limiter removal allowing you to load all your ammo at once.
Also, today's been pretty depressing for me. Fought two savage jhos today, first one we fought one guy carted three times in a row to, the other one we manage to cap after two carts, yet the same guy who got carted three times gets carted on by Green Narga, and we end up not getting any rewards at all. Well, at least I can be happy about getting the guild card award for killing Savage Jho.

So.... let me tell you a story.. of a man who fought 21 zinogres and only got 1 jasper.... oh sorry thats me .... /cry
for statistics its 3% chance to get jasper off each carve (3carves)
2% chance for each tear/shiny drop (can happen max 3 times)(usually get 2-3 each time i fight him)
3% chance for Horn break
2% chance for each Tail Carve
always cut and carve tail, break horn twice, get 2-3 shiny's and carve 3 times each fight
21 fights.... 1 jasper...
....
Friend fights his first one carve's a jasper off his tail lol
why do the RNG gods HATE ME! lol

My friend felt a similar pain to yours. 24 Azure Rathalos was what it took for him to get the rathalos ruby he needed for his armor. The desire sensor of Monster Hunter is infamous for making everyone's lives horrible. [S]I can imagine how much suffering I'll be going through when I start farming Black Blood from Savage Jho seriously[/S]

Depending on the model of bowgun a HBG can still outdamage a LBG. Also vs some of the higher RF LBGs you aren't as committed to the shot. Their shields can be useful too if you're facing an unfamiliar monster or if you don't have the timing for rolling down. In the older games you could block certain roars with the shield and because you only had to block the initial portion of the roar that gives you a small window of opportunity to play with.
For any instance in gunning you want to make sure you have the right bowgun to suit the job. This means checking damage, checking deviation, checking magazine size, checking bullet types, checking recoil and so forth. Some bowguns are more general purpose than others and some are very specific to certain monsters (in P3rd there was a RF dragon shot LBG that would murder certain monsters).

in regards to Bowguns their pretty bad for solo play unless you know what your doing.. but in regards to other weapons their strictly better for party play specially HBG as in its sentry type stance it can lay out dmg, the only single play huge dmg output i can think about would be possibly piercing and pellet shot with slime or weak element as if used in conjunction right with traps can murder a monsters hp seriously...
EDIT: Update on Zinogre issues.... 31 Zinogre's defeated..... 31st fight... carve tail get that needed 2nd jasper......
Kill Zinogre, Carve a 3rd....~sigh~...
why couldn't this have happened on my 4th zinogre ~__~
either way I now know all his moves and hes so easy to fight now... its ridiculous... now... for nargacuga... O___O

Are you kidding? Bowguns are great for solo play. You might as well say every weapon is bad if you don't know what you're doing.
