People complained, so it was changed.
I was here to see that the use of profanity was most definitely not the reason this rule was changed.
We most certainly did not have a problem with it before. When TA became admin, she just wrote up a list of rule changes herself without really consulting anyone about it.
This is my proposal. There is actually no real difference from the rules as it is now and the rules that remove this filter.
What is was before:
Do not spam*, flame*, or troll* any member of the site, be it in public threads, profile messages or private messages. Presenting such behavior only leads to further problems and does not solve anything. If you are being antagonized by anyone do not hesitate to report the post even when in doubt.
Do not harass, bully or otherwise intimidate other members, be it in public threads, profile messages or private messages. Anything perceived as even remotely harassing or insulting another member will result in infractions or bans.
Do not use excessive profanities on the forum. The censors have been removed and you are now trusted to use your vocabulary responsibly. Certain derogatory terms are still not allowed, such as the "f word" referring to homosexuals or the "n word" referring to people of color. Do not try to circumvent these by misspelling or any other methods such as using symbols between letters.
What it could be:

Bam. Done. Simple. People seem to be under the impression that the removal of the filter means we can start flooding the word fggot at each other in every possible way. This is not the case. You will not be getting away with calling other members a fggot.
All judgement is done based on the intent of the post. This is actually how it always has been. It was incredibly ironic that the the sentence "you are now trusted to use your vocabulary responsibly" could possibly come before the "but here are some exceptions!"
If you don't think there is a way to use the word responsibly, we'll cross that road when we get there. I just cannot stand the idea that we could have such an inconsistent cherry-picking rule. If the community disagrees with me on my beliefs for the freedom of speech, then I'll adhere to it, but we best take it all the way and start banning every other offensive word.
The only foreseeable problem I see rising from this is that for the first week or two after this rule gets changed, we're going to have smart asses think its funny to try to find ways to use the word in a way that doesn't break the rules, but that is just technically trolling so unless they're
really clever about it, there are going to be infractions handed out.
