.... Oh wait, people still abuse those.
I'm glad you've read anything I've said in this thread ever. This is why voting works.
Sorry to like offend you or something, but don't you still need approvals from other moderators and osay?
Of course I do.
But if you really think about it, I'm not modifying the rules. The rule already exists, but fails to achieve its purpose by not including various other words in to its list.
I'm exceptionally good at arguing both sides. I could just as easily write a good argument for why the censor should stay, and I could very easily convince the other staff to start throwing in words like gook, chink, cunt, naca, queer, etc etc until it gets to the point where it disrupts every day posting. People offend each other all the time without even knowing it by their use of specific words. We can't risk that, now can we?
I do have some really incredibly solid arguments about why the censors should stay, which hasn't been mentioned in this thread by anyone. It will probably convince a lot of you guys on the "no censor" side to switch over too. But honestly, I value freedom of expression so much that I won't mention it. As long as we're not verbally assaulting each other, we should most definitely be allowed to express ourselves without constraint. If the words themselves prove too offensive to use in such a setting, we'll deal with it by infracting members for it. The issue isn't really the word itself, its the concept of the rule.
Like I mentioned earlier, nothing significant even changes with this rule being modified the way it is. I just can't stand the discrepancy behind it.
And in the long run, just think about what the filter has even accomplished in the first place. Besides a whole lot of finger pointing, nothing really good. Censors have never stopped anyone. And I'm not sure how else to really put more emphasis on the point that removing the censor does not necessarily mean we're making it okay to say the word.
We leave things as they are: People don't get offended and the people whining about not being able to use those words will just find something else to use.
I'd prefer leaving things as they are and perhaps voting individually for other offensive words to add onto the list
What is the difference between seeing the word f@ggot and seeing six asterisks?
Nothing. We all know exactly what word you were trying to use.
Removing the censor and having it in both do nothing to deter the offender from dealing the damage he set out to do. I just cannot get over the hypocrisy behind the cherry picking and specific group accommodations. The list will eventually just keep growing and growing if we leave it as it is.
Get rid of this pointless rule, and if someone offends someone, they would've done it anyways regardless of the word choice or censor, so we deal with that, and move on.
