...This really just encourages single charge ice spear spam doesn't it.
here. You can find additional information on the new skills/equipment
The following data outlines the overall change to magic damage at 200 magic attack (1000 intelligence).
Icebolt
80*1.5 = 120 → 80 + 200*0.4 = 160
Lightning Bolt
150*1.5 = 225 → 150 + 200*0.6 = 270
Firebolt
(x1) 120*1.5 = 180 → 120 + 200*0.5 = 220
(x5) 120*1.5*6.5 = 1170 → 120*5 +200*0.5 = 700
Ice Spear
(x1) 240*1.5 = 360 → 240+200*0.9 = 420
(x5) 240*1.5*5 = 2340 → 240*5 + 200*0.9 = 1380
Thunder
400*1.5 = 600 → 400 + 200*1.4 = 680
Fireball
2400*.15 = 3600 → 2400 + 200*9 = 4200
Hail Storm
(x1) 300*1.5 = 450 → 300 + 200*2.4 = 780
(x5) 300*1.5*5 = 2925 → 300*5 + 200*2.4 = 1980
Shockwave
400*1.5 = 600 → 400+200*5.0 = 1400
Note that the fifth charge now increases damage by 500% instead of 650%.
Note that Magic Weapon Mastery increases bolt damage by 150%. Firebolt is now 45% stronger than Ice Spear.
Ice Magic has been nerfed to oblivion.
My Hail Storm critical damage just dropped from 28k to 8k.
Ice Spear and Hailstorm were the only good magic skills though. Thunder after this update still sucks. Fireball still is mediocre. 15% bolt damage does not make bolts good.
Magic is a dead skillset. DevCat has seen to that. I really get the feeling DevCat didn't want to actually fix it in a balanced way so they decided to just murder it and call it an update. Meanwhile range gets an infinity + 1 bow and piercing armor.
At this point, just delete the talent and refund everyone's AP. Just say all the Milletians forgot offensive magic or something.
And I thought just making every magic attack 5 int was good enough, but nope, they had to go further.
I hope they edit most of magic again.
Prior to this update:
Bolt Magic: Grossly outclassed by most other options.
Ice Spear: Situationally superior to other options
Fireball: Situationally useful, largely outclassed due to load time
Thunder: Highly situational. Great for Falias and Rafting but grossly outclassed most everywhere else.
Hail Storm: Situationally superior to other options. It's far more effective during party play.
Following this update:
Bolt Magic: Outclassed by most other options.
Ice Spear: Grossly outclassed by other options, especially during party play.
Fireball: Instant casting gives us a way around the lengthy casting duration, though the skill itself is still fairly weak compared to other options.
Thunder: The same as before. Party play disturbs the skill and most everything will be dead before the lightning bolt barrage.
Hail Storm: The same as before but without the splash damage to offset everything that's awful about it.
Instead of reducing the effectiveness of ice magic, which was the only saving grace of the magic talent, they should have improved the versatility and effectiveness of everything else.
After reading this thread, fuck DevCAT. Lets all take prog courses and take their place to make Mabi better.
