There seems to be quite the bit of confusion concerning magic damage right now on gameabout BBS:
Any idea so far? The OPs themselves here and here were both frankly confused.
I must say....thats quite impresive o3o...
I want to see thunder and fireball in action now.

It's better if you like Fireball.
Worse if you like Ice Spear.
Blaze is amazing but Bhalspear in the hands of an endgame ranger and reforges will blow it away DPS wise (think 50k+ mag crits with just one line of elem, especially with dex def piercing)
Fighter will do as much if not more.
Melee, particularly giant melee is more flexible and mobile than magic will ever be.
Puppets can do monster AOE damage much faster.
I'd really like for my 3k or so AP to be useful but it doesn't seem like it's enough.

Well it's useful stat wise for mana shield and gunner power. Also if you've ranked everything else, what else you gonna spend your AP on. Meteor Strike looks like it'll be really good for field bossing if you do it every hour.

Ok, you go ahead and stick with your battle toys, I wanna try this out!!!
Also, judging from that blaze picture, the enemy doesn't need to be knocked back to use it at full power?

Well considering they buffed up armors, I have a feeling most people won't even need mana shield anymore.

Considering you can do 56k blaze, 40k hailstorms, 11k fusion bolts, 100k meteor strikes without the need of reforges... + mages can instant cast without MP (oh, did I mention that each successful spell that lands on the enemy reduces the cooldown of instant cast, -2 seconds per successful hit), move while casting, and can wear heavy armor...
I think that's pretty good. For a ranger to even hit that high, they need to spend untold amounts of reforges.
Fighter damage? It basically has no AOE and hailstorm hitting for hefty damage as well as blaze without mass reforges makes magic pretty good. And considering you can wear heavy armor helps out a lot.
Now, to your question...
Is magic competitive? Yes. Is it AP intensive, yes. Do you need OP reforges? No.
While I do think some AP cost of magic needs to be adjusted, overall, it's now a good skillset to delve in.

Is ice Spear really nerfed? or atleast somewhat buffed?

It's good but like many other things magic, overcosted and outclassed. Still big impractical numbers.

Define "untold"? Magnum reforge gloves are fairly common nowadays, and level 3 or 4 elemental is expensive but not prohibitive.

Hailstorm for all intents and purposes has no AOE, Blaze's AOE is unreliable depending on connection. Fighter can swing for 20k sans reforges with Focused Fist and follow it up with 15k uppercut, 25k drop kick, 10k charging, 12-15k somersault, then 20k pummel. Keep in mind the mage in those screens had 9 matk reforge levels.
It'd be good if the AP cost wasn't sky high though.

^ Uh, fighter can't hit that high without reforges just sayin.
I've got about 800 will, about 470 max with lv 2 elemental reforges and I don't even come close to a 25k dropkick.
More like 12-13k dropkick, 8k upper, 5-6k charging etc etc.

Fighter's focus is 1 v 1, of course it's suppose to be better than magic in that department.
But when considering the AOE options magic has, fighter pales in comparison. To go into detail, elemental reforges is purely on luck. I have a friend who spent 600 usd and so far only got up to lv.3... while some get it in 40 kits lv.4+.
Unless you're a giant, wearing heavy armor boosts your defensive prowess as a mage while punishing a fighter (elf/human) or a ranger.
Range on the other hand is also dependent on elemental reforge and missing with range is still detrimental, even with 100%.
I know you want magic to be the all powerful smash down skillset because of AP cost, but in truth it isn't going to replace or be the number one skillset in all that area.
Yes, it is AP heavy, but you forgot the strenious time and money it takes to raise dex to make range good.
Anyways, magic is good the way it is now. This isn't like other MMOs in which magic dominates the meta end-game, but rather, it is now balance between the three.

As for IS, I'm hitting around (vs brown foxes)
~0.6k and ~1.5k crit at single charge
~3.9k and 9.3k crits at 5 charge.
R1 Ice Spear, R1 Ice Mastery, R1 Magic Mastery
920 Int
258 Magic Attack
Ice Spear Max Damage Level 11 Reforge (+55 max base IS damage)

Everyone said Fighter was going to be so fking OP and everyone was going to be that. I don't see that happening.
Everyone said puppets were going to be so OP and everyone was going to be that. I don't see that happening.
Everyone said Alch was going to be too strong when it first came out and everyone was going to do that. I don't see that happening.
You do what you want to do, not what the numbers tell you to do. If you do what the numbers tell you to do, that's you. Meanwhile the rest of us will stick to what we love and have FUN with.

Gee, I don't really know if much has changed. I hate to see numbers thrown around without solid formulas and stats to back them up, so I'll have pass on my opinion for now.
The only certain thing is the blaze is OP, though this is more of an issue than a delightful balancing factor if you ask me. The problem is that blaze can be used as a large area AoE attack and from where I'm standing it looks like that could mean as much as 60,000 crits or more with a well tuned mage.
