I have to admit, i'm kind of confused that all of the other devices weren't explosives. BPD was dismantling and supposedly detonated one of them.
Suspected explosive devices are dismantled by detonation. xp

That still confuses me. How does one detonate a "suspected explosive device"

So I went to Fenway today which is like 10-15 minutes away and I saw cops at every train stop.
Makes me feel less safe in the city.

they use high pressured water that will either trigger it to explode or damage it so that it doesn't work

Passed by there about an hour ago.
Almost everything is on lock down.
There's barricades on almost every street leading to Copley Square.
The tent from the marathon is still up.
I saw the military go into the scene.
There's a street that leads right into Copley Square and it isn't that far barricaded from the explosion.
Seems like this isn't affecting people, saw a number of people acting normally which is good I guess.

I think that's what we need to do, at least on the outside. There are some people on Reddit talking about organizing a bar/restaurant crawl when everything re-opens to show their support.
I'm still having a hard time with it myself.

Upside is that they are getting closer to finding answers. I've seen a couple images that suggest a couple people. All the suggestions have been white people btw...Just throwing that out there to counter the damn racists out there.
Either way what we know is that it was a dark colored bag and that it was a pressure cooker filled with shrapnel set to some timer device.

Probably domestic terrorist too, not Islam-convert. Maybe a nationalist who hates seeing the people of the world come together. Or an ACTA-member who went full lunatic and hates everything that reeks even remotely of global connections.

Had a serious scare about a project for my English class (nonstop writing for ~3 days), so I didn't really see all this until just now. That's horrible.
Surprisingly, there's actually a microscopic silver lining...

God all of this makes me so angry. Why does stuff like this have to happen anywhere in the world?
...my class project on mining tweets for sentiment analysis on my group's chosen topic (gay marriage) was short on usable negative tweets to be used as training data. My guess is that this event will provide a few more, because of WBC and the people who support it. :l[/SPOILER]

Oh right, the religious right. Why didn't I think of them? Makes so much more sense than my weird scenarios.

Culprit arrested!
Still no clue on who the person is:
Breaking news update at 1:47 p.m. Wednesday ]
An arrest has been made in the Boston bombings investigation based on two videos showing images of the suspect, a federal law enforcement source told CNN's Fran Townsend.
http://www.cnn.com/2013/04/17/us/boston-blasts/index.html?hpt=hp_t1
The breakthrough reportedly came from security video of a man dropping off a bag on the street near the race's finish line, before walking away.
The twin blasts killed an eight-year-old boy, a woman aged 29 and a postgraduate student from China.
Officials are due to hold a press conference at 17:00 ET (21:00 GMT).

Gah! I have to wait until 5:00pm before hearing about the person who did it?
Investigators have arrested a suspect in the Boston Marathon bombing, a federal source confirmed to FoxNews.com.
The suspect was seen on surveillance footage and showed a young man carrying – and perhaps dropping – a black bag at the second bombing scene at Monday’s Boston Marathon. The camera at Lord & Taylor, located directly across the street, has given investigators clear video of the area, according to the unnamed official.
“The camera from Lord & Taylor is the best source of video so far,†said Dot Joyce, a spokeswoman for Boston Mayor Thomas M. Menino told the Boston Globe. “All I know is that they are making progress.â€

Doesn't hurt to look at multiple sources.
Eh? Comeon...jeezus Officials...
Investigators racing to solve the fatal bombing at the Boston Marathon have made "significant progress" in the case but no arrests, a federal law enforcement source told CNN's John King Wednesday.
The FBI also officially confirmed in a statement that no arrests had been made.
Same CNN source as above...
Guess nobody was arrested. The search continues!
