I don't like the idea of the military breaking into my fucking house whether I want them to or not
If we let this slide, what else are we willing to let slide next?
The suspect getting away most likely.

So you're in your home because no one is allowed out, for their own safety and to make the hunt for the guy easier. That's acceptable.
You're there with your wife and kids who are already pretty damned worried and probably scared to some extent.
Then cops show up at your door and hold you, your wife and kids at gunpoint to search your house without a warrant.
I dunno about anyone else here but that's where the real terror is in terrorism. The bombings made people feel unsafe/scared (i.e: terrorized) on the streets, but the authorities managed to take it a step further and make people feel unsafe and violated within their own homes.
The worse part is it these actions were done by those supposed to be protecting the people.
I find that completely unacceptable.

The thing is the cops already do this shit when they're searching for a criminal, we've had the cops come to our house before because there was some guy on the loose and since we live in an apartment he could've been in our complex without our knowledge. There could've been a possibility of this guy sneaking into someone's house without their knowledge.
You're making it sound like the cops busted down the door and tackled these people to the ground.
They entered the house, did a sweep, and then left.
The only people that would feel violated by this would be a housewife who can't believe they just tracked dirt on the carpet because the cops had no bad intentions in mind when they were clearing the homes.
But who knows, I've got cops in my family so maybe my perception on this entire situation is different than some folks.

The difference is between asking and forcing.
Did they ask in your case?
Also did you see the various videos of the searches around the boston area? I saw entire families forced out of their homes at gunpoint, and yelled at like if they were in a boot camp to get their hands up behind their head.
I did not see any that involved young kids but we have to assume if they went home to home in a whole city there would have been several cases of that.
They're just doing their jobs in the end.
another thing is if they find any "contraband" they can arrest you, you don't know how many times I've heard about people's friends leave shit in their house or car and the next thing they know they're in jail
Either don't do drugs or learn how to hide things.
Then again I agree it's their job, however it depends on the officers who are checking houses. There are some that don't mind tearing and flipping the house upside down, there are some that are cautious of other's property.
However in a serious situation like this, I wouldn't mind house search. As long they don't take my computer apart o3o
my problem wasn't with the cops themselves but the higher ups
another thing is if they break anything while in your home they aren't liable to pay for it
I was at my friend miranda's and we got a knock on the door and it was the cops saying there was a meth lab in the area and they wanted to search her home
she said okay and they ripped her apartment apart and left her house with everything all over the floor, they even went through her garbage

not everyone knows that their friends are carrying drugs
like for my friend, they went through her garbage
what if someone was over and threw a baggie with a little bud left in it without her having any idea whatsoever?
she has 3 brothers and a sister, not to mention her parents have their friends over all of the time
we would have both been arrested
The first situation was kinda dickish I'll admit, but she did agree to a search technically. Not excusing the tearing the house apart thing in anyway, but they didn't just barge in and do it.
The second situation is their own damn fault. If you give a cop permission to search your shit and you've got something illegal of course you're going to get in trouble. No pity for them at all.
You could probably get out of charges for that easily. Even people who do possess shit get away with it if they're convincing enough.
Sadly, I wish everyone knew they have the right to say "I don't consent to searches" a lot of my friends have had their asses saved when they're carrying weed by saying those magic 5 words
I think US citizens should know their rights by heart, sadly that's not always the case
True, but cops see that as "I'm hiding something."
