So I can make a thread about every new accomplishment, failure, suggestion, every time i scratch my big left toe on Mabi? Okay.
The same thing will happen to these threads as spirit weapon thread, then people will either be not encouraged to post or will create lots of spam threads.
I don't see why this had to be changed considering that this change will have nothing but a negative effect on the actual mabinogi-playing part of the community. You don't have to have change for the sake of it if the change is bad.
The example you give about the threads in the Entertainment section are invalid because these are general threads created with the sole purpose of preventing spam. That's important enough to keep them as stickies and also helps promote activity because those are the first things people see in that section - making people who would otherwise not post be encouraged to post.
The premise this is based on is quite pretentious - this is in no way helping the activity of that section.
If this is the case, then the Mabinogi small questions thread should be destickied, as well as the small questions thread in the Future Content section. And every individual topic thread there should be stickied, since that's informative.
Your argument doesn't work.
You would clearly not make another accomplishment thread when there is already an accomplishment thread active and on the front page. I'm not even sure if you read my whole post, or you would have understood that.
There are plenty of forums that operate with a sticky function that does not use it for anything other than purely informative purposes and they have plenty of success. Users who have popular threads will manage it themselves, and create new ones when it hits a specific threshold.
A sticky encouraging posting is an incredibly conjectural statement and I have no reason to believe this. I removed many stickies that were popular once but had months of inactivity. Alternatively I had also removed stickies that are still popular, but much of the content in the opening post of the thread was incorrect and outdated. Remaking such a thread would be better than sticking to it. It is very dysfunctional.
Allow me to share with you, first first page of the small questions thread. Completely deleted as it was technically off-topic.
Isn't this the questions/help forum for all questions, regardless of size? Why limit the forum to one thread lol
I don't think this is really necessary...
I don't get the point of this...;;
Guys, if you don't get the point of this thread, or think that it shouldn't exist, just don't post in it.
That last one is really important. Think about it. Popular threads stay up. Pointless or boring threads die instantly. The more active a forum, the better it regulates itself through an invisible community sift.
Concerns of "spam" is completely theoretical and would require testing. All of you guys excluded from said test. Since you know better. Since you read this post. That said, I'm thinking about following through with your satirical suggestion of unstickying the small questions thread.
Edit:
Stickied threads also often forcefully stay alive. And have incredible longevity due to its undeserved position at the top of the front page. This can do two things.
1. Create incredibly old posts that are no longer relevant. The same exact reason why the anti-necroposting rule exists. I've seen it often in stickied threads. People addressing another from years ago. If by chance a formerly popular sticky thread dies and you want to revive it, the thread will be fresh and current.
2. Discourage larger discussion. Having a general thread, to be completely honest, sucks. It contains much of what could be its own thread in to a condensed post. It undermines what could be a big thing and crams it in to a "small things" thread. Contrary to what some users have said about stickied threads increasing productivity in boards, I believe the exact opposite. A lot of sticky threads locks away so much potential for discussion.
Edit edit: I've completely ignored my meds trying to put me to sleep. That was not good. I'm going to bed. When I wake up I imagine maintenance will be finished and I'll have a lot of work to follow up on.
