  Yes it can, but smogon is a large reason a huge chunk of the online community isn't running around using nothing but ubers, invisible wall of ethics and what not, not sure about you but facing mewtwo yveltal and blaziken gets boring every fight, and when pokebank comes up, speed deoxys all all those other happy horse fuckers with op stats LOL

  You do have a fair enough point. That being said, Yveltal isn't that strong. Someone tried to use it on me and failed miserably. Phantom Force is incredibly predictable and Oblivion Wing doesn't phase my Tyranitar.

  I've repeatedly had to face mewtwos, but my azumaril just tanks a hit and 1 shots them, so they're not a huge problem either, blaziken also gets checked really hard by talonflame xD but yeah, you don't really have to follow their bans, i know don't to the T either, blaziken is still one of my core attackers, i really don't care that he's uber, I've just loved him since the gen he came out and he's one of my favourites :3
  
  
  Also, if you're not sure what the sleep clause is, it's something (smogon) i believe came up with saying it's really bad manners to sleep more than 1 pokemon at a time so all these people using smogon as their invisible wall of pokemon battling ethics tend to follow the sleep clause as well, not sure about you but that's really fucking annoying to deal with if it happens xD

  hmmm wasn't aware of the sleep clause but that does sound annoying. I'm not going to follow Smogon to a T though especially when it comes to rating battles. I do look at smogon for tips though on how to build certain pokemon at the very least.

  I believe the sleep clause was actually implemented by Nintendo. I could be wrong.

  I recall there being the VGC format which is actually made by Nintendo; but as far as my research goes it just restricts certain pokemon (mostly Ubers), doesn't allow more than one of the same kind of pokemon on a team, and doesn't allow more than one of the same item on the team.
  
  They didn't say much about sleep clause though.

  Double team is balanced in doubles, most of the metagame is balanced in doubles, hence why nintendo officially uses doubles.
  The majority of the competitive scene uses doubles, Smogon is the minority.
  
  Compare pokemon culture in the US vs Japan.

  hmmm...I'm still too afraid to try doubles as that requires a whole knew set of strategies that I'm not prepared to take on yet. So I'm playing it safe with singles.

  It really lets you abuse trick room with stupidly slow hp/attack ev'd attackers instead of speed and attack, it's fairly nice but i'm still a 1 on 1 player for the most part, i find it more fun, although i have a 100% support slyveon just for that reason, reflect protect drainkiss and something else, forget what.

  There is no Pokémon that can learn both Baton Pass and Ingrain.
  With Smeargle being a possible exception.
