Being told that your chances of getting a drawing of your character are in direct proportion to your material wealth either in-game or in RL. Gee, I'm sorry I have bills to pay!

Well that shit takes time and effort just like everything else people get paid for. I mean I'll draw your character right now for free because I'm a nice guy:

But if you expect higher quality you should be expected to pay up a value that's worth the effort put in. Are you aware of how difficult it is to do this stuff? The artists that get paid for their art typically get paid what they deserve (or sometimes a lot less than what they deserve, which sucks too). If you think it's not worth the money then you should just do it yourself. Not to mention after a quick google it looks like you've still gotten some art for free (

A good many folks make income via drawing for their only source of money or a sizable change pool in mabi or outside. However I'm a bit saltier that a good portion of the folks who draw fan-art publicly for mabi either charge disproportionate to (at least in my opinion) how good they are, or charge only dosh.
If I wanted to pay the equivalent of 30$ or 30$ itself, I'd commission elsewhere. Some of the artists on the forums are good, yes. But imo most aren't near it. Then again, it could be that I'm extremely fickle to detail and have been browsing image sites for too long.
On another tangent, the fact that the new reforges have hiked not only the price of reforges up to prices more retarded than believable, but the fact that since my regular NX seller has now finally quit his addiction, There's absofucklutely no way to get reforges without paying out the ass. I'm sure its worse on alexina, but christ. I'm seeing people buying 1m reforges out of shops.

Alexina refined are like 500 to 550k at worst in shops, 13 to 15m in 35 bundle. Still bad, but maybe not as bad as in your server.

I haven't checked belvast since I saw 20 reforges in a shop priced 1m each get bought out. I've seen buying signs across the board from anywhere as low as 12m to as high as 15, and if I check my logs I'll be willing to bet 16.
At this point I'm convinced that alexina is better in attainable items but in limited items its a slugfest. Meanwhile mari is hellish in both.

I'm gonna mention that from the most of the art qualities I've seen in Mabinogi/nation forums are honestly mediocre at best. This also includes featured fan arts in the official FB page.
Maybe it's because I'm used to much higher quality art, but I can sort of see the OP's position in this. Some artists in Mabi simply ask way too much for their artistic abilities.

Artists shouldn't have to work at lower/slave wages because their work just isn't "good enough". I feel pretty terrible for artists who have to deal with people telling them that their work is worth an x amount of dirt.
Having to undercharge for work because people are pressuring you to do so is a huge mess. By selling super undercharged artwork, an artist and their work ends up appearing cheap to their commissioners. While more people may be more willing to commission someone for lower prices, the effect is has when prices get raised is pretty bad. So suddenly the price for a commission gets raised? Commissioners that only want to pay pennies for your art no longer want to commission you. Future commissioners might think "wow, their prices are so expensive now compared to before!" So, please don't push artists for unreasonably lower prices as things like this result in the long run.
Commissions nowadays are usually done at an hourly rate, and some artists even undercharge for the amount of time and effort that they put into their work. The thing about opening commissions is that you have to decide what your time is worth, and an artist's time definitely shouldn't be worth a few grains of sand for the amount of time they might take on a piece. (Only the artist themselves know how much time they take! Please don't assume something doesn't take a long time because it doesn't look as pleasing as another's work.)
Everyone that draws has varied skill levels. Art is also a pretty subjective thing; not everyone is going to like a certain style, quality, etc.
Don't like the prices? The work you are getting out of it? Please don't complain and just look elsewhere for commissions.

Anyways, to stay more on topic, tfw failing an enchant and sucking up 10 enchant protection potions only for a absolute min roll!!! (Burlesque is a cursed enchant!!!!!)
To be honest, enchanting has always bothered me a lot because protection potions only work once... Failing a lot can be reallllly expensive.

I can spend a full week gathering Shyliean in the preserve, Tuesday to Monday, then on Monday use all of the gathered material, and move my rank from A to 9, AFTER going back and getting a little bit more material. Mabinogi Life skills are still bull >.>
For that matter, I can make staves now, but only 50% chance of success, with materials that are really hard to find. Maybe I'll just stick to making bullets.

You mean Magic Craft and Engineering are bull, since they don't have any talent bonuses. Any other skill, you can easily jump a couple of ranks doing that, at least with the bazaar event.

I used a double skill training potion as well.
Personally I've always felt Life skills are really weak in mabi. The amount of effort compared to the pay off is lacking, especially now with so much gacha stuff available. Why be a tailor when all the best clothes can't be made with the skill?

How much shyllien are you even getting? It hardly took me several hours of work on 2x, which would end up being about 5~6 hours work gathering+consolidating.
A week of work got me just about 10k herbs and god knows how much more shyllien, probably around 40~50k+

Well the example I used was actually two weeks ago, when I was shyllien ecology 9ish and I was gathering 1-2 hours a day all week. By the end of it I have 40ish stacks of 50 (so close to 2000 shylliens), and an entire Rin bag of herbs. I barely got to 9 from the bottom of A. This week I've gathered twice that much in both respects. I expect to maybe get to 8, provided I can even access since Windows 10 doesn't allow the game to run on my machine. I needed a break anyway.

Ah, Normally I'd have gotten in at least one set, if not two. A set for me was 2 filled ecology bags, and a nightmarishly high amount of herbs, i think I normally clocked in 700 of each with the rest of my inv. It'd be more now that I have a carasek bag. I use speed staves as well, probably shouldn't because I plan to reforge for harvest song % and remake my staves for +dura and +gather.

I don't even bother upgrading staves. It's too expensive to repair them. So I just take the slow way. I mean I get something every 3 seconds and I have lucky gear that boosts me over 300 and I get a lot of lucky spawns. On that topic I'd love to get an "auto gather/pickup" ability precisely for skills like this. Not only do I have to spend time killing the plants when they pop up next to me but I have to constantly click to gather things, or cancel and move over when something inevitably falls out of my reach.
