Hullo hullo, straight to the point.
I have a [fashionogi] ego HLB at the moment, and I just noticed that you keep your old ego from same-type transfer
//wow so delayed sorry
I've been looking all over forums and I've gathered that Wing Bows aren't all that good, Ring Bows are the "best" and HLB is a mix. LLB is out of the question since all of this OP stuff ye.
My actual question - Ring Bow ego or HLB ego?
I have a beloved red-upgraded Wing Bow for crit already, btw.
End-game wise, I suppose Ring Bows would be the best ego hands down? (For elves, that is.)

Out of the two I'd personally pick a Ring Bow ego, mainly because the repairs are much easier to get, along with slightly more damage.

HLB ego is garbage, even Ring bow ego is garbage, but it's the best bow ego atm.
Ring bow ego is the only bow you should ever ego (but you shouldn't be egoing bows since they don't compare to special upgraded HLBs).

A good ring bow ego can beat a special upgraded hlb. The difference is minimal at best but its still there, calling them garbage however is incorrect. The main reason people dislike egoing bows now is because the cost effectiveness and effort you put into it is gone to waste since you can do the same for half the price and a fraction of the time on an hlb and get comparable results.

That's true, Ring Bow egos have slightly more damage, but I honestly haven't seen a cheap one for a while. I can get HLBs for 100k per, and the ego has 30 base dura already. Being an elf, the dura is drained pretty quickly ; - ;

Ring bow egos are the best for elves, arguably better than upgraded hlb. Keep in mind elves lack AR; they can only rely on normal shots. Ring bows are conveniently 2 shot knockbacks, compared to hlb is 3 hits. If mag spam fails to hit an oncoming enemy, normal shot gives more aim speed and if it hits it knocks enemies back, allowing you to load mag again. Also, on effectiveness (not dmg, r5/r6 enchanted hlb will almost always outdmg ringbow ego in terms of crits), ring bow egos have a default of 2400 range, compared to hlb's 2200. It makes a pretty significant difference.

atm i personally have a r5 glorious thorn hlb [fire 4] and a 86 max ringbow ego [fire 4/ice 3]
From my experience they're doing similar crit dmg ... with my ego doing slightly more because of the higher elemental reforge. My ego still gives me a higher max but my hlb has the better crit dmg.
So basically ringbow are still decent ego weapon and it isnt that much of a waste to invest in it [even if your doing it very very slowly]. However, dont force yourself to choose a ringbow ego just because its the best. You can easily a weapon because it looks sexy and hot :D [black gladius ego!! for me ... sis chose a blue wood blade]
LLB are still a viable opinion because they're easy to obtain for repair. I know some players simply max out an llb before transferring over to a ringbow.

For the amount of money you put into an ego bow to get it to the point where it compares to an r6 HLB is why I say it's garbage. Why pay ~50mil for an ego weapon when you can pay 500k for an r1 x-grade HLB and r-upgrade it?

Moneywise, DPS-wise, timewise, ring bow egos can't be better than HLB. Its only advantage is range and 100% repair rate. Also higher your character max dmg is, the better HLB will be.
-------
I do NOT recommend any ego weapons atm. You will need at least 2months to make it useful (lvl35+) and the costs for diamonds/990 gold NPC foods surpass the actual price of special upgraded HLBs. If you, however, are looking for 100% repair and range, egos can be good. But beware that you would need at least 50m to make it lvl 50

I'd also like to add at this point an ego range revamp is inevitable so I think maybe investing in one would be a gamble with a possible good outcome.

Just some simple math to illustrate the point for OP, say you're using me as an example. I have 589 max as it stands with a max path glorious fancy HLB, so I would have 668 max with a maxed out ego ring bow
HLB: 589*3.12 (assuming you r6) = 1837.68 damage
Ego: 668*2.5 = 1670 damage
BUT, this is for crits only. Now lets assume out of 100 hits I land 33 crits with both weapons (assuming I am always at the capped 30% crit rate)
HLB: (589*66) + (1837*33) = 99495 damage
Ego: (668*66) + (1670*33) = 99198 damage
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
So your choice, ~10mil on an r6 HLB, or ~50mil and hours upon hours spent on a fully maxed ring ego bow.
HLB still hits more.
As I stated earlier, it still gives comparable damage to an hlb. The dps on it is arguable better due to the fact it has sustained damage instead of burst damage that special upgraded hlbs give. Is it worth the time, money, and effort to get it capped? probably not. Is it a trash weapon? Not really, its still a good weapon just for those that are masochistic and willing to go through the annoyance and pain that comes with leveling an ego. It also gives some people a higher sense of satisfaction that they built that weapon and put all that effort into it and have something to show as well. Also egos have arguably easier time getting elemental reforges >.>
[S]Get a capped ego ready for the long awaited ego revamp we will probably never get :D[/S]
I guess you could look at easier elemental reforges as a plus, but you also need to consider (as far as I know) that ring bows have never been pre-r1 while HLBS come out as r1 from gachas like allll the time. And yeah like I said I'm sure that revamp is around the corner (maybe???) sooooooo yeah.
Ironically I am feeding my ego as we speak! Cool!
In general, ego with better reforges win.
I've reduced three x-grade HLBs to dust in the course of a year and this is at repairing at Edern... The 100% repair rate is a really handy feature to have despite the drawback of the time/money investment.
And the only time I've seen crit crash shot make a noticable difference is either in Lord or Peaca INT (that one chance you have to kill the ghasts before you die awyeeeeeee). Magnum crash shots shine a lot more, notably in MA tourney.
Hoorah, I was looking for someone to note on HLB ego range. Couldn't find it on the wiki [S]because I'm ultra lazy[/S]
Ahh, I hadn't thought of that. I'd totally do that but then I'd have to use 600k just on spirit transfers
[S]I'm constantly broke[/S]
Exactly. I haven't been seeing pre-r1 Ring Bows these days, and r1 HLB is like, 800k-1m. Although honestly, all the forums end up with everyone saying Ring Bow hands down
and then the person goes for a Wing Bow. what
Also, my HLB seems to be hating on Magnum Shot because ye. I get pounded by measly monsters. gg.
