I find it disconcerting that utility is highly overlooked. The extended range and 2 shot knockback on ring egos make elf range much more formidable. Instead it becomes a discussion of damage. If you can't hit something, having stupid damage doesn't help.

Because when it comes down to it, most people don't have the issue of needing more utility over damage. AOE pets and the like have pretty much taken over the roll of almost all utility making using up a damage potential for utility kind of wasteful. In the end utility has been pushed back to a convenience instead of a necessity.

[S]Stalker.[/S] Hmm yea, my ego only just reached 21 after like, a year of laziness. Ehh, I honestly don't want an upgraded HLB since it'll probably explode if I tried making it s6. And buying one is pretty bothersome/expensive (what's the price on ele 6/red upgraded hlb?)

That's true, but I just looked up on the wiki for ranges and apparently HLB ego range is 2600, and Ring Bow's is 2400.
Also, does anyone know the price on an r1 clean/egoable Ring Bow? [Alexina]

LOL I DIDN'T KNOW THIS... Or maybe it's taken for granted because my timing on mag -> run point blank -> mag -> support shot -> mag is so integrated in my mind >>

Bhafel Hunter + Huntress > Ring Bow Ego > r6 Demonic Infinite Bow > r6 HLB
This is the current meta for range. Ring Bow ego, IF you have it maxed out, is better than r6 Demonic/HLB due to the MUCH higher non-crit damage. Non-crits are 70% of your damage. While you will see lower crit numbers, they only truly make a difference in two locations: Lords and the last round of NPC. In every other scenario a crit from a Ring Bow will (usually) OHKO just as much as a crit from an r6 Demonic/HLB. So, at that point, what you are concerned about is OHKOing enemies on NON-crits, where Ring Bow clearly has the advantage due to much higher average damage.
But in the end, I agree that it will take a LONG time to level a Ring Bow ego, or any ego for that matter, to get it to this level. For a new player, I simply say get an r6 or r5 ele bow and roll with that unless you are truly willing to dedicate time to level this thing up.

I agree. I didn't emphasize enough on the non-crit issue of ring bows and upgraded hlbs. When I still have my ring bow ego (ele 6, about 15max over my r5 ele 5 hlb), normal hits/mag were A LOT higher. Even with crits, hlb is only 2-3k more (shit already dies if my mag crits, so it doesn't matter too much). One thing that is worth mentioning is that ringbow crit rate is significantly lower, so if you don't have a lot of will/luck invested, it could be a problem.
The reason i ditched my ringbow ego was that i couldn't find any ringbows on the market to repair, so i switched to a ele 4 esb, lol

Does the bhafel hunter + huntress have to be r5 or r6? I would imagine that r5 would still be better when paired with the huntress...

R6 is really a minimal increase, ur looking at a 4% increase in overall damage which isnt really that big a deal (not when the eyeball is so fking rare and ur risking losing it on such a small increase).

The Bhafel Hunter + Huntress combo is special primarily because of this effect: After normal damage calculations, another 15% damage is applied. It is also capable of piercing, which makes it MUCH more effective in Lord tier and above. It isn't even close to any other bow at all, really. So yeah, r5 is perfectly fine with it, I wouldn't r6 it personally unless I was quitting the game or giving up range or something.

I can't wait to see the comparisons if ego weapons ever get uncapped. I love having an ego ring bow. The range/2 hit/etc is great, but I'm still hoping to one day get a max damage bhafel hunter though. When I see people advertising "B>black dragon eye-35mil" I feel like I'll never get one :/ I also really wish carpentry could produce ring bows.

Okay, so it really is in a class of it's own regardless of the special upgrade level. Thanks for the clarification!

Oh, I forgot to mention; I thought elves got 2-shot knock-backs on whatever bow they used?
Yea, I've been thinking about ringbow crit rates and repairs. The bows are like, 200-300-500k now? I rarely see them for under 400k.
Anyone suggest just keeping my [noob] HLB and max it out, and then switch to something? HLB repairs are pretty easy to get...

Not very desperate, I can wait. //merchant-haggler
Also, Bhafel's is out of the question since I'm not in that price range--
Oh aaand... is Masterpiece Bow any good? The Stamina reduction is nice, as well as piercing, but it can't be upgraded and is ducat repaired.

Masterpiece bow is fashion only.
You can always switch from HLB ego later with the NX transfer pot now, so keeping an HLB for now isn't an irreversible decision.
As for Ring Bow repairs, I find them pretty easy to come across. I can pick them up for 100-150k here on Mari, and they are obtainable from Hot Air Ballooning and commonly appear in events to stock up on.
