It sucks when you see all the people you started playing mabi with slowly die off away from the game. It happened on maplestory, runescape, and every other MMO I've played. Everyone suddenly just left one day, and I was the only one who logged on every now and then to mess around.
I hope whoever quits either tomorrow, or some other day finds something cool to play, or at least invites me to join in on it.

I play alone for this reason. When I started the game I had so many friends I had to write people's names down if I wanted to talk to them because my list was ALWAYS full of people that got on DAILY. Now I see maybe 2 people on my friends list get on maybe once a month. So I usually just play by myself, I can't remember the last time I did anything with anybody.

I met two of my closest friends through this game, one of which I dated for three years. I had a hundred other people I talked to and did things with regularly, and was a vocal part of 3 huge (or at least very prominent) guilds. All those guilds and all those people are basically totally gone from the game now. I still talk to a few people, but not nearly as many as I'd like to.

Sounds about right, though whenever i get friends in an MMO, i always play it. That's why i haven't been playing any lately.

That is the exact reason why i leave and come back. I have a great guild. But everyone i knew, personally or on a friend basis on Mabinogi, quit.
It gets really sad and depressing. Its why i cant stand to play because. There is no reason to play an MMO by yourself. Creating a memory for one person isn't a nice feeling, unless you have a person to make memories with.
Its the main reason why i would rather play no games if it was just myself.
I have steadfast in Ruairi. They helped me alot.
But another fact comes into play. Daily Repitition of Events/Quests. It eventually becomes boring, dull.
I have fallen victim to several mmo's in 9 years with the same thing all about them.
People left, due to boredom; Leaving me (You) behind to wallow in depression.

come on guys!! why be so depressed~ it's just a game. people come and go!! i mean, i was really active in a good guild and everyone left too. you just adjust. i play offline most of the time now, just doing mindless things. and sometimes when im bored i go online and play with other people. it's a fantasy life so you can do anything. and sometimes to cure boredome i help out newbies with their mainstreams or something. just find something to do i say !! :D help out new people!!

Of all the people I've met on mabi and actually became friends with, only two I've really kept for more than 3-4 years.
It's fun to interact with people but you slowly lose your sense of wanting to be social knowing that relationships are so temporary.

I try not to make too much friends, because I am not really that social, and I know if I get too many I can't keep up with them all, so I never had a big list of friends, nor do I have any desire for that. I have a few close friends, who play regularily, my best friend and another real life friend are almost always on, so I hardly ever do stuff alone. The times I find myself alone, is when I do solo things such as continueing certain quests and training skills in their method.
But even if I don't have much people, I see what you mean, I would feel lonely too after a while if the few friends I have would never log in anymore. My friends are friends outside of the game to begin with so the chance of losing touch with them forever is outruled, thankfully. But there have been times when friends were out for a few weeks, or had no internet or anything so I did get to experience what playing alone for a while is like. And it tends to get lonely.
I don't think I'd quit the game if they left the game though, I would probably try to make new friends. I have accepted that in life people come and go. And I just enjoy the time I do get to spend with them for as long as it lasts, and then I will have fun memories to look back on.

This is the saddest thing I've ever read. Just like this thread.
Guys, you have to make new friends if you want friends. Friends come and go, in real life just as much as they do in video games. You have to be actively seeking new relationships if you want them, they aren't just going to fall into your lap. It's that simple.

I usually play my mmo's alone, or with just one partner.
Its peaceful, I can go at my own pace, and it creates a pretty big illusion of immersion if you're not constantly breaking it by talking with other people.
Of course it differs from game to game. Certain games seem almost designed to heavily promote party play, and I don't mind playing with people.
