If you asked me this question 2 years ago I would have said no. My coworkers convinced me otherwise and I have partaken in it a couple times. My nose isn't sensitive so the smell of weed doesn't actually bother me. If it's smoked responsibly then the benefits and tax payer savings will be worth it.
For the sake of others, probably should restrict it's public use though.

What's wrong with that? People should be able to smoke weed if they want, it's pretty much harmless and Colorado and Washington are making a shit ton of tax revenue from it. The people who do need it for medical purposes should have it readily available to them and those who want it for recreational use do too. Anyone against the legalization of weed is either misinformed or just have a personal bias against stoners and weed and don't want them having it.

Yeah, we want the "freedom" to do what we want. There are very little downsides regarding this. Our government is just being communists.

As harmless as it is I wouldn't want my kids doing it and for that reason alone I'm kind of against it.

I think age limit is reasonable, same as any other product that has hallucinogenic or intoxication effects.

I don't think weed should be legalized for public use. I don't know what the accident rates are like in the states that legalized it, and I admit I've never done it before, but I hang out with friends who did it. Talking to them is like talking to a brick wall.
Me: Watcha doin man?
Friend: Bagel.
Me:What?
Friend: Bagel.
Turns out he was making a bagel, but I didn't realize that till i found him with all varieties of spread and bagel spread out on the counter just to make one bagel.
My friend also asked if I was gay, even though we've lived in the same dorm for 2 years and he knew I wasn't gay.
One time, I was in the car with a bunch of kids who were high. I'm the only one who isn't high, but I didn't have my permit or license at the time. THe kid who was driving was high, and after a while, we passed a car who flashed his headlights at us. Now, every driver should know what that means, and I know now what that means, since I recently studied the drivers manual and got my permit. It means your headlights are turned off. It took us driving another mile before I realized that our headlights were turned off. Even the driver didn't realize it, and he was the one who was supposed to know what flashing headlights mean.
I admit I've never smoked, but having friends who do smoke weed, it's like every once in a while I have to hang out with a brick wall. I fear for us when that goes public and we have people high out of their minds in publics areas 24/7.

Also this. I have never interacted with anyone who smoked weed that could speak more than 3 words. Its like the second they start smoking their dictionary is reduced to that of a 2 year old. I went to a graduation party my senior year and the second someone brought out weed it went from a bunch of guys hanging out having fun playing games and shit to a bunch of 3 year olds sitting in silence staring at a wall and trying to sound philosophical with 3 word sentences. The stupidity of it was fun to watch at least. Well, for an hour or so. Then I realized I can't stand stupidity and my hate for weed, alcohol, and other things that make people dumber increased.

Again I think the rule prohibit drinking and driving should also serve weed well in this case. No smoking and driving. Pretty much all the concerns have answers in the form of laws for other similar substance. Really nothing unique about weed when compare to alcohol and cigarette.

Also keep in mind a lot of the people acting like stereotypical stoners are doing exactly that, acting. They see it on TV so they act it out. I've been around a lot of high people who seem normal except their reaction time and motor skills are reduced.

It's called acting, weed doesn't permanently effect cognitive function, and the idea that weed causes brain damage and makes you stupid is sensationalized misinformation
The lower education levels of the pot smokers — and their greater likelihood of being male — had made it look like marijuana had significantly affected their intelligence. In fact, men simply tend to do worse than women on tests of verbal intelligence, while women generally underperform on math tests. The relative weighting of the tests made the impact of pot look worse than it was.

The way your friends act is similar to a placebo, they see the way stoners are supposed to act and so they act that way unknowingly. A high only lasts for about 45 minutes to an hour, it's something you can do at parties and be sober by the time you leave. There are already laws against driving under the influence of any substance that effects your driving performance. Other than that there is literally no danger to weed. I remember one time someone told me weed make people act violent and crazy and I had a hysterical laughing fit. "No, honey, you're thinking of meth."

This like x100 people who smoke weed arent not that stupid. I smoke everyday literally and I can function around anyone if need be. We have actual conversations with people because thats whats fun. Also smoking in public is a good and bad thing. I smoke with my friends in a park by my house sometimes but we do it in the woods far out back so no one can see us or be bothered by us. Personally I dont know why this isnt legal, as someone who smokes both weed and cigerettes I find cigerettes are literally a problem while weed is literally just a wind down for the day but its never really needed, its wanted. But I think all drugs should be legal (besides a couple few) so thats my viewpoints on this stuff.

I never said it had any permanent effect. My friends were high in all three accounts. All I'm saying is that when they are high, talking to them is harder. I have to repeat things, have to say things slower, have to wait longer for responses. Then again, upon reconsideration, I wouldn't mind it legalized as long as the same laws that currently prevent drinking in certain circumstances also apply to it (legal age limit of 21, no driving while under the influence, etc.) I really can't argue with its use under those circumstances.
The thing about tobacco (cigs) and its difference from weed is that the "high" you get from smoking tobacco, which is usually just a light-headedness, only lasts a few minutes, and people build a tolerance to cig high really quickly. Then you're hooked on the nicotine, and do it for the sake of doing it, not for any high. So it seems to have less of an impairment on your ability to respond, and a smaller probability of your smoking affecting those around you (after you've disposed of the cig). At least thats what my research told me. On the other hand smoking weed has a much longer lasting effect. This I know from being around friends that smoke. And honestly, it's much harder to talk to someone who thinks that everything is funny, which is typically what happens when someone is under the influence. Some of said friends would just watch cat videos under the influence and find it hilarious. I would laugh at them, and eventually get bored and walk away.

Yeah but saying it shouldn't be legal because you have a personal problem with it and you don't like how they talk or act isn't right. You can't tell people what to and not to do with their own lives. Like I said, their behavior is more of a
nocebo than anything. I have been around people who act like you have mentioned and it's because they're relatively new to weed and have an idea of what they should act and sound like while high. More experienced users (Like me, Bankai, and our friends) are more informed on what happens to the body when you smoke weed from personal experience and it's pretty hard to get high to the point where you're stupid (i.e "bagel").
It's not the actual substance causing them to act that way but the way they think they're going to act while they're high. It doesn't mean they don't actually feel that way, because they do, but it's not the THC causing it. It's completely psychogenic.

placebo or not, whats to stop people from doing stupid stuff like that because they think they should be doing it? Because it seems like finding a weed user who is in complete awareness and control is a needle in a haystack. And did you read the rest of my post? I admit to the fact that my wanting it illegal is somewhat unwarranted, and i explain why.

Same could be said of alcohol, obviously its effect could be a problem but right now we are dealing these just fine, so I don't see why they shouldn't legalize it base on your argument alone.
