20% damage reduction is pretty minor, so you don't need to pay it too much heed.
No. God no. I'd say that much damage is very significant. The damage is very noticeable when you start hitting higher digits (or even mid game digits).
20%? That's like having negative level 2 elemental reforge, if only that were possible. 20% is a big reduction considering that third chain skills have ridiculous multipliers, even more so with reforge added.
Let's say you're doing around 20k drop kick. By missing that 20%, you're essentially missing out 4k damage on a skill that is normally used as a heavy damage dealer or finisher for boss mobs. That 4k can be a difference of killing or not killing. For the last blows or "heavy blows" you want as much damage as possible. Hence everyone who uses fighter with heavy armor (except Giants) are dumbasses, no offense. I mean, look at the population using fighter with heavy armor... and you'll see. By wearing heavy armor, you're basically making smash be a better last blow dealer than drop kick, as if it weren't already.

Nah, it isn't noticeable at all. Most monsters die in one shot from a fighter who ranked everything.
If you are doing 20k Drop Kick, losing 4k isn't going to mean anything at all. The monster is long dead...
I wear heavy armor for everything. Everything is just dead. All I have is r6 upgraded gloves. No particular fancy reforges or enchantments.
If you are min/maxing your end-game character to get the maximum overkill as possible, then yea, heavy armor isn't something you want.
The thing is, you don't have to have everything ranked to notice a difference. You don't even have to be min/maxing your character to see it.
Sure, things like bone lancers/fighters will die with a drop kick, but I'm talking about higher HP mobs that aren't necessarily end-game, like Basilisk, elite-level dark commander in Fomor Attack, Dullahan, etc. It doesn't have to be a big ass mob like White Dragon to notice that a single 20k Drop Kick won't do. In a sense that you'd want that boss mob to die as quick as possible, you'd want higher damage essentially, which doesn't happen for Drop Kick with heavy armors.
If you arguing about 20% damage, I guess you are min/maxing on the best reforges in the game, and asking your people to do the most optimum party setup so you can kill the boss just a bit faster?
Actually, not at all, I wish I had the resources to do the reforging/R6ing bullshit. None of the weapons that I use are R6, and the only thing that is reforged besides my weapons are my gloves, which is at rank 2 reforge, so not even the full potential. The only thing that is sort of at its full potential is my bow (ele 6), but one could argue I still could go for the bhafel combo. If anything, my enchants are the ones considered somewhat end-game. Still waiting to replace elegant with difficult (steel needle elegant gloves at the moment).
The thing about 20% mattering or not - here's the thing. It's a matter of efficiency, whether you want to kill things faster or not. Yes, you'll be able to kill with un-reforged weapons, we all know that. But we also know that reforged weapons will shorten the time to run things. Whether people like it or not, the game has turned into a game of efficiency. In that sense, 20% does matter.
It's also kind of like telling people that it doesn't matter if you use archery with heavy armor. Granted, 35% is a bigger number, but it's still highly noticeable. Same thing here.
Also, sort of unrelated, but poisoning the dark commander is an outdated method now. Unreforged magnums or lance smashes will still do fine. Like I said before, it's a matter of what's quicker.
I use archery with heavy armor ._.
Usually, you are doing those bosses in teams because the dungeon is cleared faster as a party. The missing 20% damage is gonna matter less and less as more people are doing the damage.
Isn't the Elite-level dark commander in Fomor Attack is just poison + rusted sword spam?
Not that Elite dungeons are easily accessible. If you wanted high HP monsters, you could have listed the Martial Arts ones, since they are more easily accessible. Either way, the 20% doesn't matter unless you are min/max your end-game char for maximum damage. It is just 20%.

All the easily accessible parts of the game can be done very easily without needing to completely min/max an end-game character...
Mabinogi is at a point where talents gives so much stats that you simply are overpowering all the current content. Can't do it now? Just wait for it with the free rebirths. It is just a matter of time.
The point is it only matters if you care about doing the best possible damage. If you want to play with heavy armor and that 20% isn't severely impacting your personal enjoyment of the game then you don't need to care.
