Hello everyone, I have been playing mabinogi for a while now but i never understood control bars, puppets, and hw str and dex effects them. Now I know str and dex effect the damage, both min and max, of the control bar, but how does that effect a puppet? Is a control bars damage directly influential of puppet damage, not taking into account skills? then skills are added? Or is a control bar damage just for wire skills and when i smack things with it?
The reason i ask is that I am an elf and am wearing Royal knight armor, the best armor in the game, heavy wise, that an ELF can wear. Yes i know thame plate is quiet good but it is not elf accessible. So i take a 50% dex penalty from the armor. How badly would this hurt me if i wished to become a starlet?

It'd hurt you by a lot. You know which two stats are Elf's highest? Int and Dex. You're literally cutting off about 1/3 of your damage if we assume that you have str and dex capped (which you probably don't).
As for the damage part, 70% of your damage is added to the base damage of your puppet. And then the bonus from skills and enchants take place. The damage on your control bar is merely to increase your character damage, which will indirectly turn into more puppet damage, while the artisan upgrade will improve the puppet damage by a lot. As for wire pull and puppet's snare, you'd use the damage shown in the character screen, while for other puppet skills, all the other factors, like puppet damage, will be taken into account.
So if you want to go puppet as an elf, I can tell you this: do not wear heavy armor at all. When you rank puppet, you will naturally rank range and dex skills to increase your damage output, and wearing a heavy armor does the exact opposite of this. Even an unenchanted newbie wear is better for puppet than enchanted heavy armor for Elf puppet.

Fair enough, in that case i shall continue with my plan of becoming a Treasure hunter, ah I cannot find any good light armor. My cross belt armor is so bad compared to my un-upgraded Royal knight armor. Squishy is not my thing, if i can't take a hit I'm pretty much that worthless team member, well thanks for the input, gunslinger, here i come.
well actually, what about Languhiris armor or Royal Diamond armor? Given i can easily sell the Royal knight armor for 3-4mil what is the cost for those armors?
I was under the assumption that ALL unupgradable light armor was 4/1 but the Royal is a nice 9/5 competing quiet well with the Royal knight armor, and the Languhiris, while weaker in melee stats then the Diamond armor at only 5/1 it has magic of 3/2.
SO, if i can get either of those, scared to know there price tag, would i be a viable puppeteer once more without fear of becoming too squishy?

Don't do gunner unless you have at least 1.5k stat points between int and str. The skillset itself does not give a lot of stats and your damage will suck. Do range or magic if you're an elf. With magic, heavy armor is a good option.
The materials needed to craft the languhirus armor will cost you more than you can possibly afford unless you have nothing better to do with your money.
As for light armor, encore champion gamyu armor.

gamyu can't be upgraded, so meh, not great. its stats are ok, but still upgraded the other two armors
Also gunner i wasn't going to go to ASAP.
My plan for gunner was to master warrior first then go and do some magic and some life skills frst, then go for treasure hunter. Therefore i would have good STR and INT for it before i actually begin the grind haha. I have it planned out pretty well i know its not a jump on the train talent haha

What? Champion costs almost just as much as making the Langu Armor. (We're talking around 15m.)
Try Camo as an alternative (You'll have to rank gun mastery, but it should be like 300k.) And if you can afford Champion, I wouldn't bother unless you want to get a Gamyu to Rank 1 with it.
If you're doing archery instead, I would not recommend a Gamyu unless you don't care about magnum shot. If you want to do puppets, you should definitely rank range first.
If you're doing gunner then a Langu Armor would be cool. It isn't necessary though. Just need the max attack speed through other methods if you don't want to smack down a ton of gold. Int isn't so hard to get. I know a few players who have done extremely well with gunner even without 1500 combined stats in the early stages.

I meant for one of the best option for light armor. Sorry, was unclear.
It's true that gamyus cannot be upgraded, but it does accept both armor and clothing enchants.

wow, ok so light armor is out window, if the better armor costs that much im good, I'll stick to heavy and scrap Puppets and starlet for now. I mean 15m for armor, yeah thanks but no thanks. I got a plan laid out for guns/treasure hunter that will get me some decent STR and INT through some magic, life skills, composing and music knowledge, and warrior master
IDK anything about enchants, enchanitng, or anything of that business, I'm looking at raw stats, maybe, once i figure all that out and find a master enchanted who will do it for me somehow, then I'll worry about enchanting

Normal clean gamyus are like 150k. It's the enchants that are expensive to put on. You can do quartz glass fragment gamyu, which won't cost you over 300k.

You can get a Chinese Dragon set as an alternative. I think the elf hat is hard to find though. You can also slap Automatic on Dowras and finish up the speed with other pieces/enchants. (Hawk, Hummingbird, Viscount, etc)
Guess you should change your thread name to gunner instead![/FONT]

yeah, well if i go gunner, I'm gonna stay heavy, guns rely of of Str and Int, neither of which i believe are faulted by heavy armor. So I figured if i rank 1 the following skills I should have a large pool of Int and Str by the time I am done to work with guns:
~Combat master
~Windmill
~Smash
~Blunt master
~Sword master
~Shield master
~Heavy armor master
~Assasult slash
~Defense
~Rare Mineralolgy
~Hillwen Engineering
~Magic Craft
~Shyllien Ecology
~Potion making
~First Aid
~Composing
~Musical knowledge
~Firebotl and fire mastery
~Icebolt and ice mastery
~Lightningbolt and Lightning mastery
~Fireball
~Party heal
~Heal
~magic mastery
So by the time im ready for guns i will have a good bit of Int and Str to go, plus once i start gund i will have 2 back-up forms of combat if the situation calls and some support skills to assist team mates

Just in case you're curious, automatic is around 300-400k, but do note that it can fail pretty easily, since it is r8 iirc. After that, you can just use a piece of the CD set for the remaining 2 points.
And magic craft and hilliwen engineering isn't something easy to rank.

Oraciondark wrote on 2014-09-11 17:29
ik, but magic craft will be needed to craft my own bullets later on anyway, hilliwen is just decent for the stats.
Also, as stated before, enchanting is something im really no concerned with, i'll worry about it when i get there, you know, for now i got some Dowra with semi-auto and some golden dowra r1 so i'll make do

If you care about damage, ditch those golden dowras later on. A red upgraded dowra will be much better down the line. And I would definitely replace semi-auto with automatic sometime.
Magic craft and Hillwen are very grindy skills, and will take a lot of time to get to rank 1. You can buy bullets from other players for cheap or use NPC ones. Focus on those two skills last unless you're very patient.

ok np, thank you all for the help though, so now to the armor, since heavy is limited for Elves, the Royal knight was best i could see.
Should i go heavier on the magic upgrade side though? my final planned upgrade was the Weiss magic upgrade for the OP increase in all def and prot at cost of 8 dura, which i was gonna counter by using seam strengthening and also the gem repair
