  After reading through this thread it seems like it's gotten de-railed quite a bit from actually being about people "Coming Out", and instead has spread out into a few conversations, but I'd like to throw in my two cents. But as for the whole sexuality stance, I like men.
  
  A few people seemed to be confused as to why there is a 'coming out' day, so let me point out one thing, we live in a hetero-normative society and there is no denying that. Naturally we carry some instinct to want to fit in with others, and not identifying yourself to this standard goes against that, and this keeps people from coming out. 'Coming out day' is a bit of a push to help them out, because plenty of us live in areas where we're hated, so there is quite a bit of pressure for us to not be ourselves.

  This is really quite irrelevant and wasn't even slightly insinuated, quite an extreme assumption. Though on the topic, yes this isn't accepted, and there isn't a strong fight for the right to marry infants, adolescents, or animals, as very few desire that, so no worries.

  Being attracted to animals is beastiality. Furries/bronies are part of a fandom dedicated to anthropormorphic animals and cartoon ponies, and while there are those with thoughts similar to that in those fandoms, they are an extreme minority.

  That's too broad of a claim to base as fact for everyone on the earth, given there are 7.1 billion people, a number you can't physically wrap your mind around. It's true that people are flexible, and I'm sure some people would bend given the right person, but not everyone would, and in fact, I'd imagine that most people would stick to their sexuality. You can't make such a blanket statement.
  
  Though while I do enjoy National Coming Out Day, it's sad to think of the reasons why people need this push, I wish everyone could just get along and not be intolerable.

His work has been controversial for various reasons, including things like the inability to prove or disprove key aspects of it and I'm sure that some of it has been debunked over the years, but he has contributed massively to the field of psychology--if not with the theories and methods he proposed, then by the discussion that they've sparked. Try looking into it.
  
  There's nothing crazy about the theory I posted; it fits the general pattern of human behaviour and life in general. Could it be technically wrong? Sure, and hell, I won't pretend to be an expert in this field (I leave that to the blonde girls, lolol.) But given what we do know, I think that being open minded is the more logical bet.

  You misunderstand it though, being bisexual by nature means very little. Even if we were all naturally bisexual, in no way does that translate to "If you meet the right person you'll turn bi". The idea is more than just ridiculous, it's quite insulting as well.

  It has, most of the people who like his work have never even taken psychology.
  If Freud was alive today you'd see his quack theories on tumblr and everyone would be mocking him.

  I am in complete support of all sexualities, which is probably good cause my gf is bi. My mother, on the other hand.... Seems to still have some issues with stuff. She says she would be fine with it but the way she acts when I ask her her opinions on it says otherwise. She's fine with everyone we know that are not hetero but seems to freak out at the thought of any of her kids not being straight.

  I have a friend who I've known for many years and she's been as straight as can be up until about a year ago, when she started dating girls. I know it's something she wouldn't have considered doing before, but things can change. She's in her mid 20s right now. I know that there's been a lot of other people in similar situations.
  
  You just don't know what you don't know--particularly cases like this, when you only have your (so far, very limited) life experience to go by. As for the insulting bit? That's just kind of silly.

  Next you're going to tell me which music I like and tell me your brother started listening to rap last week; anecdotal evidence holds little to no merit. If you don't think it's insulting then you shouldn't think telling an asexual to get laid is either, because this theory as presented essentially denies the possibility of asexuality.

  Using your own example with music: You have no way to guarantee that your tastes in music won't change within the next 30 years. Even if you are very dedicated to a particular genre, acknowledging the possibility that your taste might change depending on some unforeseen factor is the more reasonable position to take.
