I can tell you that game is more populated now than it was few years ago, and to be honest... I don't even see Mabinogi being close to dead... we're overpowered now, yes... but that happens when you put lot of works into your character. As for PvP... it's fun, but if you're going to force PvP to have some impacts on Mabinogi, it won't end up well...
The reason I love Mabinogi is because you basically can do anything in the game as you please, and Mabinogi are probably one of the few games with most customization options for your character.
As for content update, I assure you they're working on G20 right now, but they're trying to push out TON of filler updates in KR Mabi as of lately because they want to make G20 a big thing.
There's not a whole lot going on. A lot of the best rewards are handed out by gachapon/events and you can power through at least 90% of this game's content by the time you hit like 2~4k.
Content updates are extremely petty and rarely amount to anything more than a some new skills or some disjointed mainstream quests with no replay value.
Mabinogi still has dreadful PVP systems and PVE mini-games. If only this game had Runescape's content, or Runescape had Mabinogi's combat system...
By old format you mean in C1 where all we were given were keywords and we had to use the keywords on every NPC to try and figure out what we need to do and where we need to go?
I liked that format but I hated how we lost the keywords once it was used, I always got mad when I accidentally used the keyword on the right NPC before asking everyone else.
Pretty much, yeah. I enjoyed those days because you could learn so much if you looked in the right places. However, as you mentioned, it was ruined by the losing of certain keywords after their usage. Even further, it was ruined by a lack of information put into later keywords. How many NPCs these days will respond to basic keywords? Few. Initially, it was a feature that set Mabinogi apart from other MMOs, and some of us loved it for that.
If only this game had Runescape's content, or Runescape had Mabinogi's combat system...

well P2W aside... I think changing head chief too many times was somewhat hurtful to the game. Yes it bring in new experience but.. each new head chief did not understand what the previous head was trying to do and so they couldn`t keep it going so many content end up becoming broken or dead. Even if they try to keep certain content alive by adding new rewards to them, they dont make similar new content. By making new content that is different and more worthwhile to use, old content get discarded by the player base.. Repeat that again and again and again... you'll make the community want more and more efficiency in gathering gold and exp, resulting in the birth of Elitist which make the game even more detrimental for other players that didn`t become or didn`t want to become Elitist.
The point of changing head is to have a new perspective. They aren't supposed to copy what the previous head tried to do nor try to understand them.
A lot of good changes over the years would have never came if they kept with the old thinking.
Players wanting more and more efficiency in gathering gold/exp doesn't make the person an Elitist.
Elitist has nothing to do with the game changes either.
Never said all players wanting more and more efficiency all become Elitist. Just that this kind of enviroment facilitate the birth of such creature...

I think the main complaint on Nation is elitists that don't understand they're elitist and give crappy advice to newbies. "S6 or go home", "If you can't cap Int you suck, go cap your int", "Nobody uses Smash because everybody has R1 Final Hit", etc.
