You tell your dad not to swear at you... while calling him a dumbass?
Go a little deeper into what the father said, then you might see why she called her dad a dumbass.

Did you know a fag is a cigarette?
Did you know a fagot is a bundle of sticks? Probably where both got the name. (A gay stereotypically being a weak, thin guy, and a cigarette being rolled leafy stuff.)

Honestly I think the word gay should strictly refer to a homosexual person or an interchangable adjective for "happy/enjoyable". Often at school though I notice people tend to say "Your gay" when they mean "Your acting like a jacka**", no one seems to mind though since everyone understands the gist of what the person means, unless theres some closeted insecures, i dunno,
I agree with the part in red. I don't use gay in the fashion mentioned above in blue as freely as a lot of people I know. I don't use it whenever I'm around someone I don't know, as the person might see it as offensive, only with people who I personally know, and know they won't be offended.

I hate the use of the word as a replacement for a negative adjective.
If you're saying "that's so gay" in replacement of "that's so stupid", it implies that gay=stupid. I find it offensive to gay people and also thinks it begins to facilitate homophobia. Basically, while you say you're not using it in an offensive way, you're equating being gay with negativity. My reaction to "faggot/fag" is even stronger. It seems like people take homosexuality as a negative so lightly, when they're already having a hard time with rights as it is.
To me, it's discriminatory. It's like instead of saying "that's so idiotic" someone says "that's so Mexican" or something. Using a group of people as a negative adjective just doesn't fly by me. Anyone in the guild that ever used that term around me got to see me flip out on them. It's in our guild rules to not be racist/discriminatory or say things that imply discrimination because I WILL get upset when someone does that.
