Does anyone else have to deal with people who like to brag about their ethnic group?
It's very apparent in my friend group.
Most of us are the same race and same background, only difference is our ethnicity.
Sometimes we can get hostile towards each other and start Korea VS China arguments.
"Haha Korean music is way better than Chinese music, China isn't even a little creative."
"Korea just stole China's culture, it doesn't have its own, how creative."
"Made in China is bad because everything from China is cheap and low quality."
"Look at the world powers in Asia- Japan, China. Hmm I guess someone forgot Korea."
"China has a much stronger economy than Korea."
"That's because we don't have sweatshops that work our population of laborers to death."
I don't understand why ethnocentric people feel superior just because their ethnic nation is good at something, it's not like they made their nation better.
It's like when people exclaim that China is communist.
I'm not a government leader in China either.
It's promoting the idea that people originating from better places are naturally superior/inferior to others.
We shouldn't be mean to someone from Taiwan if we're from mainland China.
Thoughts?
Do any of you see this type of behavior around you?

Yes, and it pisses me off to no end :I
I mean, really... spending so much time bragging about other people's achievements. So what if they're from the same place as you?

I don't come across people like this too often. If I do, its probably once in a blue moon. I personally don't let my country define me, and I guess other people I talk to don't either.
I don't understand why ethnocentric people feel superior just because their ethnic nation is good at something, it's not like they made their nation better.
This almost completely sums up my thoughts on ethnocentric people anyway.

Not that I'm bashing westerners but most western powers messed up many civilizations, for instance the Americas, Africa and Asia. Basically everything cept Europe. Here's how the Sino-Japanese hate came to be in my views, first England was doing illegal Opium trade in China, in which China got pissed and picked a fight but lost. Now China is on a leash and weakened. At the time China had some influence over Korea, then Japan wanted Korea to be independent to make sure no other super power would control Korea (possibly more western powers since China is currently weak) so Japan wanted Korea to be annexed but China refuses so they fight and China loses. Japan probably had a superior complex at this time due to western influences so they were picking fights to make sure they're on top in Asia. Thus China starts disliking Japan, even though they were buddy-buddy prior to this. So on and so forth WWII and Nanking happens, even more hate to Japan from China. Well that's what I believe caused the Japanese hate from China.
But anyway, I don't see why we should be hating each other. I don't feel that Chinese people are better than any other race because I would be no different from a racist. But I am stating this, why the hell are civilians being terrorized for something the government did?

Aren't Asians particularly bad about this? Ignoring the azn pride bs that came up for asian-americans, Asians typically hate each other, don't they?

It's comparable to anyone who hates the Germans for the holocaust happening.
While that's politically incorrect, Asia really flaunts its hate.
Korea and China detest Japan for the Asian holocaust.
My mom used to tell me all Japanese people were evil :|
It took me a long time to convince my parents that their anti-Japan sentiments were stupid and unjust.
Mom: "The Japanese killed enough Chinese to create a river of blood."
Me: "And those same Japanese are going around stabbing people right?"
If you're going to bag on someone at least do it because of their bad actions and personality.
Asians typically hate each other, don't they?
Thankfully Asian Americans and new generations unite more instead of discriminating by ethnicity.
I'm happy to see Asian pride more, rather than Chinese/Japanese/Korean pride (although all of it is annoying).
Most of the hate comes from our parents who tell us stories about Nanking or etc.
The soft power from anime/manga, kpop, etc. really helps us explore other cultures too.

Yeah my parents used to hate Japanese people too.
When I watch/draw anime, they used to give me that look like I was watching porn. o__o...
But now they're much better, after years of me convincing them that Japanese people are regular people.

I will also state that just because a few idiot Japanese and Chinese citizens are bashing each other doesn't mean that all of them hate each other.

That's just Artefact screwing with people on Sankaku. He intentionally chooses articles that will get people pissed. /misses old days of sankaku
I don't particularly have to worry about it, since my parents were refugees and don't particularly seem to mind much about other asian nations. I do have to put up with idiotic comments like "My dad killed your dad in 'Nam" though.

Same for me, minus the "Nam" part.

Hate just starts from a jackasshole from one side that disses the other side because they think they're the $h17. And the other side is wrong for replying to that diss with hate or violence.

Well, this all just stems from human pride. It's about the same as your parent bragging about your accomplishments to other parents, except on a larger scale. It might be because of the competition between Asian companies that people in the US and other countries receive a lot of high-quality Asian products.
The Japanese-Chinese hate is really escalating at the moment in a dispute over territorial claims for one island. I think in China, some Chinese people took some Japanese products from the stores and threw them on the ground.

South Korea and China do not like Japan because of WW2, as of now. Japan pretty much denies that they committed the holocaust of their people. Rape of Nanjing, and around korea, and China deaths total is bigger than holocaust in Nazi-Germany. Around the time they honor their heroes from WW2, Korea and china gets pissed. You know its bad when a Japanese porn star, says that as a apology she will have sex with some of the male citizens.
Before anyone mentions this, yes Soviet Russia, Stalin killed more of his people also. This is the same case as the dolphins and the sharks. One got a better agency than the other.

Haha, I see this all the time. Mainland China people and Taiwan people are still hating on each other. It's really sad. I mean, we're all chinese...
Honestly I hate racism to the extreme as well as any ethnocentrism. I think people do it because since they have nothing to brag about for themselves, all they can do is brag about where they're from instead. "Even if I fail, at least my country doesn't!". But it's stupid of course.

This is so true! My dad hates China people like mad. I just haven't told him that my boyfriend is from mainland China yet...LOL. But the parents tend to want to pass the hate down to their children and they're very stubborn/narrow-minded when it comes to trying to convince them out of their hate. I mean, seriously. Why hate on something that happened in the past? Sure, the Japanese may have killed tons of Chinese before or something, but it's not like the current Japanese people are still doing that. You can't blame children for what their ancestors have done.
