I don't know about you, but if I was a high-end mage with 600 Int, I would gladly shell out 156 AP so I could save an incredible amount of MP supply (plus skill's bonus stats of Int and MP). Ice Magic Master title might also add 10% more MP efficiency for Ice magic too.
Honestly, if it wasn't for the MP reduction bonus, I would have agreed with you on this matter. Bolt Magic is getting stronger (but it sadly won't ever surpass the basics of other skill sets) and more Mana efficient (meaning it's more feasible to use bolt magic more often now and as part of the mage's skill line up instead of being overshadowed). Bolt Composer already makes the awkward Magic Fusion setup into a very practical skill, bridging the powers and capabilities of both Basic Magic and Intermediate Magic.
Really sad Blaze is getting nerfed and that the Combat Wand is going to get less love... again.
Yeah, that is true. I thought about that as well. Considering Ice Mastery affects three spells (Ice Spear, Icebolt and Hailstorm), I did some math, and the mastery really makes Hailstorm stronger simply because of the damage output. The %variation of a high number will lead to a high number as well, which is why I used Ice Spear as an opposite example (low damage output). There was a post a few months ago that detailed break point where damage pre-G13 equals damage post-G13 with a given amount of Int. For Ice Spear it was about 740 Int (it considered the spell multiplier and five charges).
MP efficiency will definitely a plus, even more if using a full mana reduction set like. Then again Hailstorm would outclass Ice Spear in terms of efficiency and damage (not only 1vs1), and the intermediate magic will become rather dull, like bolts now which only use is finishing off monsters (at least for Ice Spear). If I had known this before G13 was announced I wouldn't have put over 400 AP each Adv Magic, simply because I would have used my resources (AP) more efficiently in the "elite" magic (AP cost is almost the same). Seriously, at least they should have reduced AP cost of Inter Magic.
Adv Magic in general will actually get better by 50~100 damage and more MP efficient with r1 masteries (the again, you would have to master THREE skills). Bolts get weaker even with 600Int, and no mastery of any kind.
Bolt Mastery+Elemental Masteries=+580 AP just to get a decent damage! Of course, the fun part of G13 will be Hailstorm. Magicians, don't rank these masteries unless you have tons of AP! Go for Hailstorm or Bolt Composer instead!!!
And yeah, unless they uncap Meditation combat wand will not be used that much. Lol, they might even release a "Blaze Mastery", +5% damage.
