  Its actually quite easy to make, and if you use white chocolate you can use food coloring to make it red. Also you can sprinkle on maybe powdered sugar or coconut shavings. You can even use small drops of corn syrup and wait for it to harder to make it look like water droplets. Give it a clear plastic wrapper, tie it with a bow, and BAM.

  EDIT: Yes, it has to be the Penguin since it's the cutest out of all of the others. I don't know about New Jersey, but most girls go completely Gaga for these at my school. A more accurate translation of how they act though, is more like "OMG SO CUTE CAN I BORROW IT FOR A PERIOD?!?" And then they proceed to hoard it until the end of the day until I had to pull it away from them to get it back.

  The entire purpose of the chocolate rose was to NOT freak her out.
  I don't know about you but where I come from chocolate is a pretty entry level gift with the only possible way of backfiring is if the girl is allergic to coco or is lactose intolerant. Its very normal to give chocolate to a girl you show affection for, even if you haven't started dating yet. Besides, Hitaki here said he already confessed to her anyways.
  
  If he wants to impress her out of the friends zone then its a good step to take.
  
  Unless you think there is a better gift.

  I honestly can't think of a good gift for the situation, but I don't think chocolate is a good gift. Maybe if he knew for sure that she really likes him, like go-out-on-a-date like, then yeah, sure, but I don't think now is a good time for chocolate in the shape of a rose. MAYBE little regular chocolates, but definitely not rose chocolates.

  I'd imagine receiving a chocolate rose would be very strange and/or awkward. "Uh, so do I keep this or do I eat this?" Even giving food really seems like a bad gift idea. Food is given within the friend zone and in the end it's still just food. My friends and I often receive handmade brownies and cake during holidays but I remember books and bottles of soap much better. I don't see the problem in getting her something generic like a stuffed animal, it sends the message and doesn't make you appear desperate.

  Its not weird, its not a friends only thing, and I fail to see how it makes you seem desperate or how it won't send the proper message.
  
  I've made a bouquet out of twinkle pops and there wasn't a girl who didnt love it. Maybe pikablu can do this instead and save the chocolate for valentines instead then. You can also use this as a good chance to ask her out to a movie or dinner.

  Its not creepy. Its sweet (in both ways). They've been friend zoned for a long time AND she KNOWS he likes her. She won't be creeped out by the gesture of a the friend who she knows likes her make her some chocolate for christmas. You're reading too far into it and applying some sort of overblown paranoia.
