As I explained in my post: I am proud of the accomplishment I have done. I completed the original G3, which had 3 floors, no play dead no throw stone, no alchemy. That it was nerfed means no new players can get the same accomplishment I have.
Don't get me wrong, I have noting but respect for you guys who did it on the harder mode. I get that it's a pride thing. Personally I prefer story over difficulty, hence why I waited for a long time before I did G3 so that I was trained up well for it, and by that point it was nerfed. Still I don't feel bad about not getting to do it on the old mode because I'm pretty sure I would have just stopped because it sounds crazy and it's just not my thing. I wouldn't have skipped as I'm opposed to it, but I wouldn't want the title/enchant, and certainly not DK enough to bother finishing. I'm one of those people who always picks the standard mode on a new game whenever I turn it on, whenever I play it. I prefer having the choice.
In that same idea I'd probably give an option to be able to take an easier level SM for the gen quests in chapter 3, though at steep exp costs (like if you want to go from Hard to basic you lose 90% of the basic level's payout, or something to that effect to make people really think before they just go basic on everything). I would push for this one above anything else simply because, while I did all 4 gens in chapter 3 on basic with a total of 64, I have a friend who's effectively given up on G11 (and by extension all gens) because she can't get past the cooking dungeon, the dungeon that is otherwise a mini-game has made her give up on G11, and this is someone who did G3 on the old mode, or I think she did, she's been around that long. It was at least well before G8. Either way, she's done all the gen's on multiple characters, never skips anything, tries very hard, but yeah the Hard mode thing of chapter 3 and onward has just completely killed her desire to do what she really used to enjoy doing, and I can only imagine a few others have been disheartened in the same way.
I have no doubt she'd do the rest of the gen on adv to hard if she could just pay down that one part so that she could turn in a crappy three star pancake rather than have to do the 5 star ones. But yeah, my main point is just I think it would be nice if Mabi gave you some more options to opt out of the "crisis" mode. Personally I see Gen SM's that pick your rank for you as a punishment for being around for 2 years: "Let's just kick all the old players in the teeth by making them HAVE to do a bunch of quests that will drive them insane because they've been around and re birthing so much they're over level 1000". That I think would be the biggest improvement. And sure I know that if you can lower the difficulties, you'll cheapen the rewards a bit (and demi and Brionac are pretty decent rewards), but seeing as the Knight transformations are just as big a deal (G2 is Cake, I can do it in 10 hours, and G3 can be skipped), you wouldn't be changing much if you allowed people to make their lives easier. Plenty of people are like me and emphasis story over the difficulty, so it would probably be one of the better additions to the game. Like I said, make it expensive, but at least make it an option.
Edit for new idea:
While i"m on the subject of Gens, how about a dungeon where you can fight old generation bosses XP
