I have to agree with the OP on this one. Sure it's not a bot, or a hack, but a macro.
Does that really justify anything that it just makes fossil restoration easy? What happened if perfect fossil restoration gave out wing bows? How would that change your stance on things? Just because it's not "game-breaking" doesn't mean it's right. All macros tell me is that the said user is lazy. Annoying as the minigame may be, it's meant to be annoying.
As for losing respect, I've been there too. However, I stopped being as intolerant as I used to, seeing as many of these kinds of things are widespread and widely used. :/ Might be the reason why I hate Ruairi though.

Not to worry.
The other servers are just as corrupted too.

kinda funny how some players take mods more seriously than nexon itself lol

@Koishi; well, I'm sorry you feel that way. I will say again though, I don't care what you do. I just think it's silly to try and justify it. Trying to ridicule others only demeans your own views though. It doesn't do you any favours, it burns bridges and worst of all doesn't actually say anything.
@Mysticskye & other whiteknight moralists (not saying Mysticskye is one): I'm sorry you feel that way. I will say though, I don't care what you don't do. I think it's silly to try and justify it though. Trying to ridicule others only demeans your own views. It doesn't do you any favors, it burns bridges, and worse of all doesn't actually say anything.
It's funny how the same thing can be said almost exactly word for word, and apply perfectly. Morals are morals, and are personal and subjective. There are no higher or lower morals, just morals you don't agree with and ones you do. You can hold opinions on others based on the compatibility of your morals and theirs all you want, and that is fine. My opinion is that it is pretty ridiculous to think badly of someone for something they do in a game, simply for the purpose of having fun in that game. Especially if it impacts you only in the most technical of ways, as is the case of this macro.

So you're justifying ccfb then, because people would do that for having fun as well? I'm just curious on how far your notion would extend in that "having fun" category.
EDIT: I believe what I'm trying to get at is that there's definitely advantages in using macros/mods/hack/whatever you call it and it doesn't always boil down to having fun but rather taking the advantages of the said macros/mods/hack/whatever you call it.
This isn't about things we do in game, but as one's personality and nature as a whole. Just because one takes the shortcut everytime in game doesn't make me incline to believe that they would be taking the hardest path in real life.
Yes, I agree with your blurb about morals. However, I never said about looking down upon others. Others might. I think (mostly) everyone has been civil in this thread, so I can't really see where you got this "look down upon" notion.

So I just learned from a friend (and lost all respect for him), that NA has a "macro" that completely restores a fossil 100%. I think that's game breaking. He keeps claiming that it's not a hack and it's a mod, but that is completely false. I will say, some things I do have on my mabinogi are more "mods" and change the gameplay, but not to that serious of an extent. Zoom feature because it's a different look, giant keys because it's easier to see, treasure/mimic seeing because the random feature... but fossil macro is just game breaking. that's something that requires skill... not time.
So what's your opinion? just WHERE do you draw the line?
in this case its a bot/hack (people you cant cover this one up) its gamebreaking... whoever said "It's just a mod" GET OUT..
I draw the line at w/e can be done with needing skill.. but a mod does that skill endeavor for you or TIME it takes to sit and do it yourself is considered a hack/exploit and I dislike these
Im fine with zoom out (specially for giants) in a sense that the camera is same for humans and I can barely see other things... besides my char soo.. that should be fixed a bit just a bit >.>
Mimic Viewer isnt that* game breaking but... still its an exploit and (honestly who needs it..theres already a legal game glitch with them anyways. Mount.. click random mimics till the key pops up, jeeze it takes an extra like what? 8 seconds?)
and no matter what (I will be flamed for this cause people are idiots and have to defend something they use)
Oh and just so everyone knows anyways ... I do not mod...of any sort.. (I used to) but that was way over a year ago..

I used that macro to get pass g8. Can barley do it as it is, and I have bad hand to eye coordination. Yes I took the easy road, but I was more concern about getting g8 done so I can move on with g9.

About that you could just right click on a mimic, if the mouse turn into camera rotating cursor it's the key chest, else it'll stay a sword cursor.

TinyMo wrote on 2011-01-17 20:43
Well you could just rotate the camera so the chest's in between you and the camera. If it goes transparent and you can see teeth, it's a mimic. If it stays opaque it's the key chest. No real need for a mod there.

Seriously, please learn what mods and hacks are before you put anything under either category. They are not defined by whether they are game-breaking, they are defined by what they are. Fossil Macros are macros. Macros are not mods-- they do not modify the clien't file. Macros are not hacks, they do not interfere with server packets.
I draw the line exactly where it is. The definition of mods, hacks and macros is not arbitrary or subjective. It does not matter what
you say they are, they simply are what they are.

No,
you get out. It is not a hack in the least.

.pmg swaps: ie: clothing, hair swaps etc. Client sided stuff
xml edits: most mods around like prop naming (potatoes get potatoes named on top for example). Client only
dll edits: most mods around like CP viewer are dll edits. These may affect other players since expert programmers may use this "door" to make the famous 1 charge fireball and god shot dll edits. Those will obviously be noticed by other players
3rd party programs: macros, dyelite, timers, cooking rulers, etc. Client sided ofc duh
packet editing: something you dont want to know since nexon smells these at distance.

There's an XML one out that allows uncap of auto production and another one that allows refining to be 20x faster (no making 1 at a time. can make all instantly)

I think mods are fine. I use mods, i'm a member of a modding community, and I do PMG swaps for fun.
Hacking, i'm obviously not okay with, and i'd argue some mods are borderline game-breaking. But fortunately, a lot of the people who release mods are wise and don't release some of the easily-abused ones.
And if people are going to be butthurt about it, there's nobody and nothing stopping you from modding, apart from your holier-than-thou complex.

I don't know if this applies but I occasionally see modders talking about mods in-game and caught two a while back talking about duplicating any items with the mailbox and a certain mod. If that's not gamebreaking I don't know what is.
