Since boat 5 is here i realized not sending mobs away is a good thing, because monsters now survive one full LLLLR and those tiny rooms get pretty crowded, allowing mobs to potentially hit harder and more often.
My Crit is Rank F, my WILL is Rank D. Im using a Cave walker and my Crit is 31.
How high is yours? It does make a difference?
EDIT: I ranked Critical Hit all the way... i did it because i didnt have anything else to rank and... well, i wanted to experience for myself how was to have capped Crit. Ill might update the pic later.
[Image: http://i1208.photobucket.com/albums/cc375/iGregHouse/2011_02_20_0001.jpg]
NOTE: Just to clarify, im not refering to missing Bloody Thread, a hit from the physical part of the smash is enough to activate it. Im refering to missing Invisible Loom MAGICAL DAMAGE. Wich is huge in comparisson with the physical part.
Also, i think there is a lot of missconception about this topic.
1. Every smash has 2 parts: 1 physical and 1 Magical.
2. Magical Crit affects the magic part, Critical Hit affects the Physical part.
3. Magical part of smashes are much higher than physical part. This is why INT stat is so important over STR.
4. Both components can Crit. A physical crit could result on a mob knocked away.
5. To be able to use an SNAP atack, you only need to hit the mob with the smash (Physical or Magical part).
6. The potential lost on ranking Crit too high is that when the physical part crits the second part (Magical) misses entirely.
7. The higher your Critical Hit chance is, the more often it will happen.
8. If the Magical part misses, YOU CAN STILL USE BLOODY THREAD. But you missed the most damaging part of your smash.
9. A crit does not guarantee knockback, the absence of a crit does not guarantee the absence of knockback, a crit only increases the already existing chance of knockback, and not by much. (Thanks to SozenCratosFocker)
BOAT 6 UPDATE THOUGHTS:
Since this thread and analysis was made from a Boat 5 and down perspective, i believe it needs an update on our current content (31/03/2011).
1. I will consider knock back helpful now. On boats 5 and down a KB would mean that you take more time to kill a mob, and the general thought when this happend was: "bleh! now i need to run over there and smash again... what a pain..." This has definetly changed. Now if we get a knock back (speaccialy on Bombers and Spearmen) we think: "Thank God that thing is on its back.. now it wont snipe me while a kill the other monsters". Thats my tought on the general perspective, and i guess you all will agree, at least when soloing.
2. So after all this debate and analysis we can (i hope) conclude that Critical Hit its not de end of the world for a Scythe Evie. The problems it presents are hapenning rarely, and they didnt really made us work that much harder, while still giving benefits on Boss fights. I agree though that on Boat 1-5 (From a high level point of view) could annoy some people. And now, on Boat 6 (and im sure on every boat since) it helps our gameplay for the same reason it annoyed us before. So it is all situational

I've noticed that sometimes, I glance even when not doing a crit.
Which only supports my original stand point that glancing is a cause of poor aiming, not crits.
If you aim properly, you won't glance even on a crit.

I think it helps.
any damage boost is quite welcome actually.

It's a large and noticeable difference if you rank Magic Critical Hits.
Plus I don't believe the regular Critical Hit skill is beneficial for Scythe Evie, since it doesn't do anything.

I've actually had crappy mobs, like the zombies in Ainle, get knocked away from the upswing of my LLLLR, leaving me without a Bloody Thread to use.
So I'm not going to bother with physical crit at all.

This is what im refering to. Crit with the upperswing, the physical part of the smash.

I feel like even on Boat 8 watching those clips trash mobs still move around while you even with normal attacks, seeing how if you rank it all the way to rA, you might have a problem if you keep on missing especially in higher boats. I'm not sure, my critical rate is pretty low and I've never missed a combo+e move in my life and I plan it to keep it that way.

an upswing hitting is all you need to land a bloody thread.

True, but you would like to land the magical part of the smash... it does more dmg than a bloody thread snap. The more dmg, the faster you will clear out mobs.

critical for the evie is the normal part of the scythe. aka when your about to do your smash its the up swing that evie does.
yes critical for EVIE is useless because crit sends the mobs flying which is freaking annoying as hell. sending the mob away wont let yu perform smash combos .
for someone thats played the korean server as well, i can tell you that crit is totally useless for evie. if you want crit you can go and get heavy armor + weight endurance. then it doesnt really matter since your normal will be totally OP and having a crit would benefit
btw death, we cant LLLLR kill them with cloth armor but with heavy armor we can lol :)
i already tried :]

umm how does that make sense? I thot that cloth armor provided more dmg to scythe evies then heavy armor because our dmg is based on INT.. So does STR actaully add more dmg then INT?

The idea isn't having more damage than int, it's to have enough damage to kill the mob with just the physical portion of the attack, if it does crit. (And if it crits, and you have a high ranked critical, typically the mob will die.)

int adds to the smash
reg normal attk only benefits from str more str = more normal damage.
i would only rank up magic crit not crit

You cant miss Bloody Thread unless you dont hit the mob at all. What is there to miss is the magical part of Invisible Loom smash, wich hits harder than BT snap.
