Sometimes I would really like to give comments a thumbs up instead of replying because I just want to let people know that I agree with their comments in a simple way. Does vBulletin allow that? I guess not, but it would be nice, right?

Yes. It is known as adding rep.

I will try to be nice to you despite the tone of your post.
1. You can't add rep to the same person consecutively, remember the "you need to spread some rep" message?.
2. You can't "rep" a single post.
Therefore it is NOT the same.

To be honest, I've always found the whole "Like Button" thing annoying.
I've always rathered people actually post on things than click a button saying they "Like" something.

Can you explain to me the tone that I was using? I never new you could tell a specific tone through text..
1. That is to stop people from just giving the same person rep over and over to increase their rep bar.
2. You add rep to the person, for the post that they made. That is thanking them?

I agreed with this... no offense, Pierce, but this isn't a Facebook or something. :U

Like buttons are cool but we already have rep. The main idea with a like button is that people can go, "oh look, the charismatic humanitarian known as Arsik seems to be getting more love than that poop-coated Mop". So yeah, likes are just reps the world can see.
There are some other differences (as Pierce pointed out) but what I really don't like about like buttons is that you can express yourself without posting, which is more of a con than a pro for me. If there is a post I like, I try my best to say I like it then make a comment regarding the topic.

There's the real "like" buttons for things like twitter/facebook that lets you tweet the post or show all your friends that you like it, but those aren't good for anything except bringing in more traffic which we don't really need.

I agree, but you gotta admit there are certain instances where a like/+1 button would be nice. For example, I've noticed the replies/views ratio is nearly 30%, and poll answers/thread replies ratio is less than 20%. That means a group of people doesn't feel like posting but would like to participate somehow. Giving them the option to 'like' a thread or a post could potentially improve discussions because they might want to post later on.
But yeah, it could have a negative impact on the forums because people would prefer to simply like a post instead of replying, however that would also improve the quality of posts and highest rated comments could help finding the best answer to a question faster (much like Yahoo! Answers).
Bean Rua would be funny, lol...
Edit: @Osay you don't want more traffic?

More traffic = more work.

When you rep someone, it's on a specific post that they made, isn't it? That's what it looks like in my user CP, anyway, because the rep is attached to a single post, and people leave reasons as to why they repped that post.
Explain what you meant please D=
If people want to "like" a thread so they can post in it later, they could subscribe?

Sure, let me rephrase that. I mean that it won't publicly show that somebody liked that post (only you will be able to see it in your user CP). Adding rep will only increase the rep bar, so how will people know which posts are your best?
And I don't mean that people will "like" a thread to post in it later (as a reminder). This is just my theory -->I believe that liking a post is like an incentive to follow a thread, and that might make you post because you're getting involved with the discussion.

I honestly like the rep bar more than those "Thanked blank times on blank posts" things.
