Four in ten? Really? I'm surprised it's not nine in ten or perhaps even more than that. But I guess only four in ten admitted it in this case.
I'm also surprised more men don't have these fantasies, but it kind of makes sense because men somehow got themselves into some weird social conditioning crap so any sign of weakness is kind of a huge deal to other men.
And yeah, I wouldn't call them rape fantasies. Just rough sex fantasies. If someone asks me to "act out a rape fantasy", it usually turns into a rough sex fantasy as people don't realize just how brutal, especially emotionally, it is to actually be forced into sex. The person on the "giving" end really has to be acting, and they have to do a pretty bad job of it too.
Blah, I don't prefer submissive women, if this post hasn't made that obvious <__<
Actually.. it doesn't have to be rough either.. It's only rough is the female has the power to fight back with all her might and the guy lack the power to fully control her. If there is an overly big difference in power, it can be less rought..
Also if it's too rough.. it get closer to real rape which isn't exactly enjoyable on the physical level and help the mind keep a grip on reality so it doesn't "sink" down into it.. The whole "sinking" is the true enjoyable end of rape fantasy..

It's a rape fantasy. No one rapes people gently. Of course it's going to be rough!

That seems more of like a "hold me down while you **** me" fantasy. I wouldn't even call that a rape fantasy at all. If anything, it sounds like a standard sexual position and nothing more.

@ Rebecca; hence my prior statement =P people only call it rape because it includes some supposed "forcing" and the "no no no" factor.
Real rape fantasies are usually had by those with a more.. twisted mindset.

Not really. I like Yaoi because watching girls in Yuri do the things I enjoy in sex is just painful; women are more delicate than men.
In real life I tend to hate being around any masculine men, it irritates me. Irritation =/= sexual attraction.

Female understanding and male understanding, clashing togeter, unable to understand one another.
That rape fantasy I talked about mostly only applies to females.. I don't expect a guy to understand it but I'll try a little more.
First most, been mostly a female fantasy, you have to give up on the litteral meanings of every single words.. or mostly.. give up on the meaning of what is "rape" It's easier to call that fantasy as "rape fantasy" because of where it takes it's origin.. but the meaning of it evolved far from been the literal meaning of "rape".
If you did the survey but instead of saying "rape fantasy" you said "random man you might know of or not, comes at you, brutally violate you which may leave scar in some case" I'm pretty sure it would go down to near 0%...

It's not a gender thing.
And you might be surprised how many females actually want quite a high level of sexual aggression in a man. It's also a fantasy in that it can be requested and acted out with a close and trusted partner, it doesn't have to be some random dude and he doesn't have to be beating you or cutting you up. But a certain amount of roughness is required for it to even be considered a rape fantasy. And even then, it really is only a little more than a "hold me down" thing.
If you want to call it a rape fantasy, go ahead, but we're going to need a new word for people who want more and some of the lighter words may never be used again.

This topic isn't my thing, so it's a great way to gather information about this topic.
I'm not sure if this is generally accepted as fact, but aren't rape fantasies normal? I mean when you're dreaming about being forcefully put into this position in your dream, it's because you subconscious is thinking about this, either from your Superego or you Id which may suggest that this is something that stems from a pleasureful desire. Just like Chiyuri stated, dreaming of rape fantasies allows for a flow of emotions which simulate a "nirvana", it's something most people (I currently see in my community today) don't obtain quite often.
Now onto the question from Spike, it may just be because our lives (specifically women in this case since it's directed towards women) lack any sexual suggestiveness since society pretty much generally frowns upon sexually suggestive things.
All I can think of now o.o

I have to say negative to this.
You can get raped by anyone, not just a stranger. Even your significant other can rape you and it doesn't necessarily need to be rough.
Rape simply means that you are not consenting to sex.

Uh, I've never had a rape fantasy, and I'm surprised people are saying 9/10 do ._.

Girls are naturally submissive by nature, such a primal instinctual desire is only reasonable.
It's likely how we once reproduced, so it's in our genome. It's at a very primal unconscious level. We can't really control it.
Our instincts take over and it is no longer our logical mind thinking.

Hmm, I always had a different view of it.
Many societies demand that women be "pure" and unsexual, yet at the same time, we get hony too xD So in a rape fantasy, the woman gets what she wants, sex (and the feeling of doing something taboo), while not having to face the social/mental stigma associated with a female actively pursuing sex. This of course only applies to the fantasy situations.
For me personally, its never a rape fantasy, but rather a "we shouldn't be doing this here....oh you talked me into it with your sexyness" :3

The ones that I know do.
Nope, no, and absolutely not.
- Judging a large population by a few number of people, with a rash generalization
- Sounding as if that factor of being human automatically makes them all hedonists

There you go.
This "rape fantasy" (when fantasizing of being the submissive one) is basically that - an actual rape would be nothing like how they imagine it to be; they are imagining a fake rape.
However, being the aggressive in this "fantasy" - that is wholly different.

By nature? I wouldn't say that - I see it more of a "submissive attitude by desire" rather than "submissive attitude by nature".
Although if it were based on DNA and such, I believe it obviously more of "instinct to reproduce" than fantasizing about actual rape.
(But I am lacking in finding the source for this 'submissive by nature' you speak of, if you would kindly link for me to read) :what:
Women were raised to be submissive for CENTURIES. If that didn't embed it in our DNA somehow, then iunno broski.
