You'll probably charge them.
How would the banking system work, free storage, or you pay for everything that gets put in?

I think free storage but I'll have to see what scripts are out there for banking.

How bout these classes?
Spellblade: Swordsman with some basic offensive magic. Has the ability to imbue blade with elemental power. Average stats.
Spartan: Spear and shield wielder. Above average defense and average attack. Perhaps utilize the spears extra reach in some way like first strike?
I'll think of more, I love RPGs and always make my own class when possible.

:D
Those classes are basically the Magic Knight and the Spearman. I think I'll change the Spearman's name to Spartan though. Feel free to make more classes. :D

So the big thing right now is making classes and picking which classes go with each staff member. We could also have a job system.
So if people could concentrate their talk on playable characters, classes and the features around them, that would be great!

Claudia wrote on 2011-08-16 20:27
Well, I think that each character should be job-locked. As far as choosing which staff member is what job, we can get to that part later. I think that it should be okay for two staff members to fill one job for certain jobs, just so people can be unique in who they play with ("MY SKYE CLERIC IS BETTER THAN YOUR ARSIK CLERIC") and every staff member is playable.
One reason is I figure that a job system would be much more work to implement. The other is that it would suck if it became like FFV's job system, where you can make everybody the same job and just wtfpwn basically everything with certain jobs.
I think that if everybody has a fixed job, you could also switch people out of the party. Because maybe, there are times where you want to have a more magic-oriented party, and other times where you just need physical fighters and a healer.
I figure that in the end, it allows for creativity, but not so much that you're overwhelmed.

Also, it wouldn't be a bad idea to get other people to help you on this game, and I don't mean just asking people about characters and a general plot. While you work on gameplay mechanics and being the lead collaborator, you can hire someone to focus on the plot, and fleshing out the characters/story, another person can work on the artwork for the game, even if it's just having that person make some portraits for the game's characters, where generic NPCs (if any) don't get any portrait, named NPCs get a single portrait attributed to them, while the important characters have four or five portraits for them (a standard portrait like you would find on the named NPCs, a happy portrait, a sad portrait, an angry portrait, as well as a special portrait unique entirely for that one character [examples being a tsundere can have a look of surprise with bulging eyes, mouth open and blushing, while a super serious character can have one where he's facepalming], and possibly some CGs and cut ins for a character's ultimate attack. Finally get someone to come up with the music for this game. You don't necessarily have to pay anyone to do this, just find some volunteers, preferably from this site.
This way, it will really be a Nation game, for Nation, made by it's members. It should also help you out in the long run, since you're not doing as much for the game with a team behind you compared to you doing everything by yourself. Then, you just set some basic timelines for the heads of your departments to finish things, while you focus on putting everything into the game and making it work. The department heads can also make teams of their own, for example, the head writer can get a few people to help out not only come up with a plot of Nation's history, but help out by making sidequests and what each character can say, and the lead artist can get others to come up with concept art, and monster designs, and then coming up with either making the monsters be hand drawn or sprites when put into the game, in which a person who will work on that. The composer might have some problems, since they probably are going to work on it by themselves.
Also, voices: Yes, no, maybe?

I offered to help this time, since that way I can force him to keep working on it till it's done. ;D
As of right now, I'm only familiarizing myself with RPGmaker, and I think Mop's gonna have me doing level designs and putting the quests together after he gives me the dialogue. (But first I need to figure out how to make houses with actual floors. lol)
On the art, I think that would be a very good idea. RPGmaker comes with a few cookie cutter portraits, but it's only one per character, and I would feel kind of rip-offish to be using other people's portraits.

This is awesome o: I'd love to play when it's finished. I use both VX and XP, so I understand how frustrating and time-consuming it is to make something on there orz;; It took me a while to even make a demo. I wish you luck! :D

@Claudia:
That was basically the original plan. And yes, the Job System would be more of a headache.
@Arsik:
As Rain said, he's gonna help out with some stuff. I can definitely do the programming (the language they use is a modified Ruby language, which is very simple and accessible) and I still want to play a large role in game and plot design. If anyone wants to help out, you can PM me after I put details on the first post.
As for voices, probably not. Well that would be fun, it will make the file huge and the game will have to be hosted somewhere.
