Hmm where was it found that it wasn't written by him? I'm pretty sure that chapter is not in the Light Novel, however it was posted up on the Authors site by the Author himself as a side story. If not written that would of made it at least endorsed?
Well whatever the case is I really don't see chapter 16.5 being animated or even part of it >-> but after what they did in Episode 4 chapter 16 itself could be done fully.

I checked when the forums were up a few days back, apparently it's because there's a bunch of other chapters like that, with KiritoXSinon, KiritoXLyfa, KiritoXSilica, and other girls in the series.
Also it was discovered that 16.5 wasn't actually written by Kawahara.
Well, that makes sense. It's actually surprising how long it took for them to discover that.
Edit @ Shaggeh : It makes more sense now that he wouldn't write 16.5 considering how terrible Kawahara is at writing romance. Though we'd have to wait for the website to be back up to confirm the discussion there, I'd trust Kar's post.
Edit edit : well bakatsuki is back up and I got around reading their forum post on it. To be more precise on Kar's post, 16.5 apparently is written by Kawahara, just not the rest of the shipping stories. Also they are labeled as fanfic, so they aren't necessarily canon.

There is something I'm curious about the system of the game.. The Nerve gear could scan the player's head to recreate the same hairstyle and face but.. How did it know the lenght of Asuna's hair that come out of the Nerve Gear?

The time skips are a bit of a problem for me for the series in general, however, this was still a really enjoyable episode. I was wondering when they would address the issue of players killing other players. The scene at the end addressed it very nicely.

Nerve Gear has the user perform a calibration of their entire body, quote here from volume 1 :
That wasn’t all. The actual build and the girth of the players had become larger too. There was no way that the Nerve Gear would have been able to know all this.
Klein was the one who answered this question.
“Ah… wait. I bought the Nerve Gear just yesterday so I remember. There was a part of the set-up… what was it called, calibration? Well anyway, during that bit you touched your body here and there, maybe it was that…?â€
“Ah, right… that’s what it was…â€
Calibration was where the Nerve Gear measured «how much you had to move your hand to reach your body». This was done to reproduce the sense of kinetic accurately within the game. So to say, it was almost as if the Nerve Gear had data about our exact body shapes saved inside itself.

Seems rather simple to me. If the nerve gear is calibrating your body, of course it would know the length of your hair. Keep in mind this is the future with advanced technology, ain't gotta explain shit (that much).

I also remember the Light Novel going into detail about how even though everyone got the Mirror, Hairstyles was still customizable in the game. So hairstyles didn't really have to match the real life counterparts, they could of got a haircut or dye job. I believe it said Asuna tried Pink hair once but quickly changed back >->.

About the anime, that Klein says he lives alone, so how is he still alive if no one is aware of him playing the game? I'm sure for other people they are treated as coma patients or something, but I don't quite understand how Klein is surviving in the real world.

Klein has plenty of friends.. a relative to one of his friends might have pointed it out.
Also, there was a group formed to rescuing the people trapped in the game and brining them into hospital care.. Sincei t's pretty obvious there would be case of people living alone, they mgiht have gotten special permission to enter houses that weren't responding when knocking on the door or ringing the bell... In that case, they might have found Kelin after raiding his house.

It is also possible that the stores kept information on all the purchasers of the game, or that the game maker himself released the player information to authorities for them to take care of the players.

true but I find it scary that we have to give our personnal information to every shop we buy stuff from.
If it's information from subscribing for an acount to the game, there is the strong possibility people wrote a fake address.

4 episodes so far, it ends within 24 ~ 26 episodes. Just read the LNs if you really want to know the entire story without having to wait for next episode.
