The Bishop of Harrisburg called on God to get a message through to President Obama this Sunday.
At many Catholic Churches across the country last weekend, priests included in their mass the news that the federal government wants church-linked organizations to cover birth control in health care plans. Birth control continues to be looked at as wrong in the Catholic Church.
In churches throughout the area the Bishop asked members to pray and reach out to lawmakers to block the recent decision.
The message from Catholic Bishops is loud and clear as a church bell.
“If you could imagine to hold something you hold sacred that would not violate it, imagine what it would be like to have the government say you have to break that rule,†stated Joseph Aponick of the Catholic Diocese of Harrisburg.
The rule came down from the Health and Human Services Department last week. It tells church-linked groups, including Catholics, that they must provide free contraceptives in the healthcare they provide to employees.
“We are being forced to pay for services that are morally objectionable to us,†Aponick added.
The letter says "health coverage that includes sterilization, abortion-inducing drugs and contraception."
“Planned Parenthood fully supports Obama's decision to make prescription birth control available for women at no cost,†countered Heather Shumaker of Planned Parenthood.
But Planned Parenthood organizations say not so fast to the Catholics. They say a recent poll shows more than 70 percent of catholic women take contraceptives and the Secretary of Health and Human Services says there are other benefits than birth control.
“I think their letter is misleading, Planned Parenthood fully supports religious freedom,†Shumaker concluded.
Catholic bishops say they will have to drop their health care to employees if this is upheld.
This also brings up the argument over when life begins. The Catholic Church refers to the morning after pill as an "abortion-inducing" drug.
Others say the drug prevents fertility and that it should not be considered abortion.

While the world continues to move forward, the leaders of the Catholic Church(es) continues to move backwards. Majority of the catholic women uses conception and birth control already...

What should happen.
Bishops, Pastors, Preachers w/e should be allowed to marry
Contraceptives allowed.
Even if abortions are wrong (my opinion) Do not bloody excommunicate a little girl who got an abortion because she was raped.

So a woman should have to be forced to carry and care for a child that she probably never wanted, + live with the memories of the rape that child will constantly bring up?

That's sad but I believe everything happens for a reason.
That's not the baby's fault.
Put it up for adoption if you don't want it, and don't say that they'll have a horrible life like that because not all foster parents are bad.
My mother was a foster child and where would I be without her? No where.

Yeah, and it's not the womans fault either.
No woman is raped for a reason besides some sick f*ck wanting to screw something. The fact that you could even think otherwise makes me lose essentially all respect I had for you.
Don't use God as some bullsh*t excuse for rape. There is no, NO excuse for it.

I never said there was an excuse for it,
Rape is sad, REALLY sad, but like I said, you don't want it? Don't keep it.
It's not the baby's damn fault that his/her father was a sick ****.
And I had these views before I found God.

The church can go suck on it, people don't take religion seriously nowadays. (I'd be more sympathetic if it were another group protesting, but I'm very prejudiced)

She's not saying that rape is ok. She's saying that she disapproves of abortion. I agree with you, however.
There are enough Humans on this planet. Nobody should have to carry a fetus that was forced upon them. Who cares about the fetus anyway? It cannot reason. It simply represents the potential for cognition. Your body kills billions of sperm/hundreds of eggs in your lifetime. Why is it such a crime to kill a fertilized egg?
Religion be damned. A bunch of fools clinging to fairy tales.

I agree except for the fact that by the time most people find out they're pregnant, it's no longer just a "fertilized egg"
I believe EVERYTHING should have a chance at life.

She was basically saying everything happens for a reason, meaning that in the end, that rape happened for a reason. Which is essentially trying to justify the rape in some way.
