  tl;dr afking gets you placed into 5-10-20 minute queue games for a specific number of games, if they continue it's a perma ban.

  Well, to be fair, one person going 'i'm leaving' ruins about 30-40 minutes for 9 other people, and some do it often enough and don't get punished for it, there was more than a few cases of accounts going 0/50/0 in ranked 50 games in a row just to troll and they were never touched. Or people like kaceytron who alt tab and afk half the game in ranked making it damn near uncarryable.
  
  And these punishments more likely than not will only affect the extremely bad ones who do it a fair amount, riot is generally pretty good with balancing stuff like this.

  And that's the mindset that pretty much gets you stuck in whatever elo you are.
  
  Things to keep in mind: First ten minutes don't decide how the game will go, although it can be an early indicator. I've had plenty games where our team had two inhibs down with only one tower taken, and we still managed to win at the end. Sure the game could look bad and you could say gg, but the truth us, there always is some way to win the game. Now it's up to the players to actually find the way or not. Some decide to, while some don't and just lose the game.
  
  My rule of thumb? Never afk. You committed yourself to a match, so stick with it. If you want to just end early, there's a thing called surrender.
  
  Like, I don't know why you consider playing in a solo queue to be "asking to get banned". Of course you're gonna get banned if you afk or troll excessively, what the fuck would you expect? As long as you're playing with a normal mind set, you shouldn't get banned.
  
  From my experiences of playing at both higher (high plat and low diamond) and lower (silver or lower) elos, I can safely say that the cases of trolling and afking is more prevalent in lower elos. Not that it's unexpected, these people have the minds of 12 year olds.
