As of Lv. 35, the only bosses that I could Prey Dive were Gnoll Chieftain, Polar Bear, Kalis, Stribog, and Dim Gray. It's not a very universal skill, so I don't tend to rely on it. It's only half a bar of SP as well, so it's easy to have the SP in store.
Magnum isn't really worth the charge time. It's like 0.493 max charge. You can easily Gale-Twister-Gale-Twister on most bosses safely upon knockdown for 0.914 total, and less SP spent without weapon swap. Prey Dive is 0.690 but you can fit some normals in before that to maximize damage.
Longbow isn't really worth it for soloing once things actually learn to run at you.

I just thing it's more fun, haha. I like Magnum.

Yeah, I know. I personally find it more fun to just slide around the boss while kicking it's back.
That and my aim is horrible.
It's just that even with headshots, Hunter's Eye, and perfect charging: Shortbow still has better DPS and doesn't cause the boss to instantly aggro you. I know the general history of Kai has been he was nerfed from his test server version, making Longbow the go to option. Then he got nerfed again and Shortbow is now the go to option.
I love the idea of having two styles in one, but it just doesn't seem like balancing it is really possible.

Magnum is a good ranged attack when you have way more SP than you need and can't get kicks in. I prefer the other SP attacks because I use a shortbow more, but meh.
Well, to be honest, I don't know if it's even worth all the time it takes to charge it. But for what it is, it's alright.

It takes less SP if you release it without full charge.
Full charge is like 1 bar of SP, only one charge is only like half a bar, two charges is a bit more.

Magnum is good for really large bosses, such a polar bear, Irukul, etc. Smaller bosses, you lose out on a lot more dps. I feel like with a lot of the higher level bosses, long bow becomes less useable, other than raids (of course, talking about solo), due to the fact that most of them become a lot more mobile, so you're not able to get that charged long bow shot.

Uhhh, no it doesn't.
I have 4k attack (level 29) and I'm not killing things in one shot with that.
It does for me in boats 1 and 2. In 3 however I have to use it 2-3 times because I just started there. Also, I said most mobs so I know it can't kill all with one hit.

Im gonna guess that DK steal, and whatever pally's have, is entirely useless for kai.

Obviously if you're higher level than all the boats...

Also after playing around with kai's normal atk animation theres a glitch where if u sprint and spam normal atk to cancel out the running animation kai shoots really fast. (Almost double atk speed)
Ex.
Sprint > leftclick spam till atk speed resets back to normal > repeat
-it seems that you only get around 5 shots with the atk speed boost
-if u time it perfectly u can sprint > shoot 5 > sprint really fast (i personally double tap any direction key) > instantly normal atk again > repeat to permanently keep the atk speed bonus ("reloading" arrows)
(This needs more testing)
(also not sure if this is a glitch or intended)
So I noticed while most people didn't reply to this, I did some testing myself.
The speed boost is always there for the first 5 arrows with the Shortbow. If you move between the shots (does NOT have to be a sprint), you will regain the speed boost for the next time you start shooting.
Also it only works IF you're moving when you start shooting. You will NEVER get the speed boost if you start moving after, so you have to be strafing while shooting in order to get that bonus. Not too much of an issue for most people as Kai is usually always moving.
Now if you dodge or kick and then start shooting, you will NOT get the renewal of the speed boost UNLESS you move a bit before shooting. It's easy to do as most of the time you're inputting a direction while doing those moves. Just wait a split second.
Now you can't immediately sprint after you stop shooting. There's this brief no move period (from what I've seen) where you can't sprint and you're stuck in sort of a combat stance. Now what happens is if you wait, but start shooting during this period it WILL refresh the speed boost.
So the optimal damage output seems to be looping [Shoot - Shoot - Shoot - Shoot - Shoot - Pause].
You won't get more than 5 shots off in most situations before needing to stop and reposition though, so it's really only useful for some pretty niche situations. I think the speed boost was intentional to help Kai actually be able to burst against later raids.

Well for mobs (ex. archers) which are weaker than the others i was always able to 1-hit those with the longbow whereas the harder mobs (ex. the larger kobolds...can't even think of their names atm.) took like 2 if I didn't miss of course. For the ones in the middle it varied, I would 1-hit 50% of the time and the other 50% I would have to hit them again. But I did the dungeons as they opened for me so, most of the time I was the same level as the dungeon or one level above.
The only thing that I don't like about the longbow is it's pretty slow, but there's no getting past that so I just don't take it out whenever I get to the boss room; that and it eats up the stamina pretty badly anyway and takes longer to get sp.
Not sure if this has been brought up but, question: as far as pally/dk goes what would be the better choice for him? I tried to pick what was best for my Evie, Fiona, and Lann but I thought those were pretty obvious. I'm leaning towards DK just because it doesn't seem like Kai gets hit enough to really need the defense so...I'm not really sure.

Oizen wrote on 2012-07-23 07:43
I went with DK, mainly because Kai doesnt need defense all that much, and the massive stam boost of DK seems really helpful for him.
And as a previous DK as a lann, I know DK's with maxed out health can take a beating.
Plus, and this goes for either trans, imagine what kai would be if you maxed out both of the SP gain boost skills.

That's kind of what I was thinking but I didn't want to get there and pick something that wouldn't really help me. So DK it is.~
