I didn't need Windmill when I did G1-G3. It wasn't until way after G3 that people started telling me that Windmill was the skill to rank, until then I just thought it was a stupid skill since it used HP. Smash and Icebolt got me all the way through those generations.
And the wiki is just worded wrong as usual. 1 + Int/2000 is the same as 1% per 20 Int. At 400 Int it'll be 1 + 400/2000 = 1.20, or +20%.
Also, even with 400 Int magic will still be weaker. 1 - 20% = 0.8 * 120% = 0.96
Then you lose the original Int bonus of around 40 damage for 400 Int, which for bolt spells is around 25-50%. Advance Magic is around 10%.
In short, unless you have way over 600 Int, you're way below breaking even.
I actually did say a full charge and walking away to charge a bolt wouldn't always work since you can only hit one target leaving the rest of the mob on you. Plus you're most likely in a corner so no where to walk to.
Using Smash on Zombies is pretty risky and you'd probably die allot. And unless you can hit over 1.5k Smash damage, then you wouldn't be able to ever kill a Lycanthrope. But you could have taken some wm friend with you to take care of them, but I do think the Binding quest is solo tough.

And we'll probably lose the current X1.1 magic damage bonus as well, so I have a feeling that even with the masteries and 600 Int you'd not be able to make the loss of damage up. To tired to do the math :(

To me and i'm sure a lot of other Pure mages(not hybrid mages) the loss of windmill really isn't a big deal... now if they took away counter attack.. that might be a differen't story.
I think that mostly shows the difference in play style. For you losing counter is a big deal while I'd gladly have given up Counter. On the other hand you'd gladly give up Wm, while I'd rather not have to give it up.
And on the other had, does my use of WM make me any more of a hybrid than your use of Counter? Are ether of us still a Pure Mage anyway?
