Mabi is doing really well so I don't think you have to worry about it shutting down any time soon.
I thought profits were down by 20% last year?

When Mabi stops getting new events for months, then that's an indicator the end is near.
Ex. Mabi Europe, Dfo, poptag

It's good to try and think about this long-term though, right? I don't particularly want to put a bunch of time and effort into Mabi if it's gonna shut down in 6 months, that's not very long at all ;w;

There is no basis to think this whatsoever.

I have absolutely no evidence to strongly believe in my guts and say 3 years from now the game will close.
Mabinogi's only chance of survival is to have Nexon localize
Mabinogi Girls, the Trading Card Game.
Edit: If you have android and can muscle through the Korean, you can download the app
here.

The fact that they are slowly taking more care of Mabi should reassure you that still has a significant longer life span.
Plus and this sounds mean, but it's possible some of DFO's servers will be donated to Mabi to help with stability

I don't understand how localizing that will ensure that Mabinogi survives.

Mabinogi is doing fine.
If you're worried about overseas, Mabinogi is celebrating its 10th anniversary.
Ironically, people said the game would die out in a few years when Mabinogi was celebrating its 2nd anniversary... again at the 5th year, and when it reached its 8th anniversary. While I am not guaranteeing that Mabinogi will last another 10 years, I am throwing out the possibility that not all MMOs are short lived stardom.
If you even look at Runescape, that thing has been alive for a good while, so it's quite possible for Mabinogi to last a good while (not guaranteeing, but possible).
Whether it will die in a few years or in 10 years will be up to devCat's decision and of course, the playerbase such as you and I. =)

Hell no, they'll just throw it at MapleStory, and their spoiled community.
OT: I can definitely see why DFO closed, but that won't happen to Mabi. There's just too many intense players who will always spend money on the latest item, since I daresay Mabinogi has one of the most extensive customization options (Not physically, but clothing-wise), [S]as well as those blasted items Nexon will always put in gachas and not in the Cash Shop.[/S]

Runescape is the exact comparison i'm making - As crap as it's become nowdays, i'm always 100% certain that it's going to be there in the future and that's what's making me question what to do now. My jimmies are rustled. :x

Don't worry!
It won't be long until Nexon releases Mabinogi Girls NPC Coins. xD

It was a joke.
But Sword Girls Online seems to be doing just fine, so maybe it would help if NA Nexon brought it over.
Anyways, Nexon is a gaming giant that hosts hundreds of games, but NA Nexon heavily limits their budget so that all their profits can go to the Kim family (nepotism at the top). If Mabinogi no longer gets money, there are dozens of titles to pick from and localize.
NA Nexon still likes Mabinogi. If anything is to go next, its Atlantica Online.
Mabinogi 2, EverPlanet, and Warface are sure to get a localization. NA Nexon doesn't really have the budget for all these new games, so they'll slash the less popular ones from their hosting list. These games will roll around in 2 to 3 years.
The BEST indication of whether or not Mabinogi will start dying off is when NA Nexon decides to start merging servers. Its the simplest and most obvious sign of decline. That would probably be the best time to stop buying NX products and ease off on the game.

Well, considering we have Free VIP atm, event on top of event, and Nexon is advertising mabinogi to DFO players, I wouldn't be too worried.
