What type of headphones do you use?

  I'll need to look at and seriously consider a K601 because I was already looking at a K702/Q701 which, for people unfamiliar with this set, is basically an updated K701.
  
  I currently own a pair of HiFiMan HE-400s.

  That stuff is arguably "boutique" gear if that makes sense. Not necessarily paying for the best sound quality but instead paying for a specific type of sound.

  K 601 is out of production and stock everywhere, as I had to find out when I recommended it to someone earlier. You may get lucky with used ones on ebay or Amazon marketplace.
  
  I also have to correct my "even more bloated midrange" statement concerning the K701, looking back at it that does not appear to be the case. Not sure why I thought it was.
  
  There are no constructional differences between the X01 and X02 series except for the detachable cable - the X01 series having a soldered cable and the X02 a Mini-XLR jack for professional use. There should be no audible differences attributable to actually different construction except perhaps per unit due to serial dispersion.

  But for the most part they're pretty similar anyway. That detachable cable is really nice though. Like, it's a big deal to me after my Sennheisers and several other headphones had their cable go out. The cable is usually the first thing to go in a good pair of headphones.

  Between X01 and X02? That would be new to me. I'll just send AKG an email. Webshops certainly offer earpads that work with both.
  
  And wow, looks like the "Anniversary Edition" actually has a reasonable headband. I like the design too. Blue ring on black case. Makes me think of Schneider Kreuznach lenses, very classy. I would totally buy it and sell my K 601 if the price was reasonable for my budget. :gloom3:

  I could be thinking of the differences between the Q, K and K Anniversary rather than the 701 and 702. But I've heard that the earpads on some are consistently stiffer/thicker or something despite being compatible with all of them, due to manufacturing differences or something? Not entirely sure. I could be completely wrong and thinking of something else. It's supposedly why they have almost the same physical construction (think an internal part is made of different material too maybe) but measure a little differently.
  
  I mean really they're all going to sound basically the same anyway. It's not like it's a noteworthy difference. Might as well get the prettiest one with the detachable cable.
  
  And yeah, I'd get the Anniversary K702s if they weren't $400 for basically the same product as the $200 version :l It's tempting to go for them for the beautiful styling and supposedly better earpads, but meh. Qs look good enough for me. They'd need to be within like $20 of each other to even consider it.
